Toast was a disappointment for us. Food was not that great and the service was really bad. We're going to try it again, though. Maybe it was just a bad day.
Went to balter once in June when guests were in town. It was good, but didn't live up to the hype. Tough chicken (the sauce saved it) and boring beef the night we were there. And it was a bit too pretentious for my taste. Any place not happy about leaving a salt shaker on the table is not a place I'm going to be happy with. (I know, I know, their salt is mined from some utopian place, and far superior to the common stuff, and I should have been thrilled with the few grains we were allotted. But sorry, we were only trying to make a bland side edible, and we shouldn't have received the attitude as if we were asking for water from the Holy Grail). We were all wishing we'd opted for Zion instead. The signature cocktails and infused liquors were to die for, though. So the evening wasn't a total bust.
Rum Runners is still a good place for lunch. But the fish tacos aren't what they used to be. Bombay is good too. Consistent and cool.
Shupes has great bar food. I just wish they'd serve the food on plates. Hard to keep all that paper nailed down when it's breezy, and sometimes I like to finish up a messy sandwich with a knife and fork. But it is what it is. We usually use them for take-out.

We did glow for a few days after. Thought it was extra sun. But who can be sure?

went to ocean view-where golden rail used to be.
food was average
there was only 1 server and 1 cook and 1 dishwasher. the server worked very hard and did a pretty good job of serving the people in the restaurant at the time. 3 tables basically sat down at one time.
the kitchen staff ( you could see in the kitchen ) were constantly busy. they had a party of 6, a party of 4 and us ( a party of 2 ) to get food out for. it took almost 1 1/1 for us to get food, this was from the time we sat down. i was getting ready to leave when the food finally arrived.
while we were there there were 3 women sitting at the bar. one went behind the bar a couple of times to get refills on her drink ( she looked like the server , she also used to work at the pickled greek ) the one in the middle just sat there. the other one on the end, after the rush was over and all tables were bused, started wiping the tables down. she came to out table and asked if ours was okay, we said it was fine and she still wanted to wipe it down . ( honestly, looked like she was tipsy????? Not sure as i did not ask her. but her motions and voice made it seem so) she wiped down about 4 tables and went and sat back down. a few minutes later those three left.
not sure who they were or why they didnt actually help either the kitchen or server when they actually needed help. that whole situation was very disturbing. were they owners/managers/workers? if so why didnt they do anything to actually help out?
the server did her best especially as she was the only one working the bar/restaurant.
not sure if we will give them another try.
i do not blame the kitchen staff or the server. this is clearly a management issue. as in poor management

Amazing new restaurant in F'sted just north of Lost Dog (on the west side of the road).
Cibone`
They make the menu up every day based on what ever they can source "freshest" locally.
We tried everything they had to offer (Except desert, too full) and ordered a dish to go besides.
Great spot, some of the best food I've eaten on the island, they had Randy playing live last night & the volume level was "appropriate" which is so rare around here.
I'm probably adding this one into my rotation of places to eat (gotta try it a few more times, just in case...), very very good.

Just wanted to post that we went to Savant last night and were genuinely wowed!
Appetizers included the empanadas: fantastic, and charred calamari, quite good but unevenly crisped (ranged from just done to cinders).
I had the curry goat and it was the best I've ever had--actually the best thing I've ever eaten in the Caribbean. Truly delicious.
My husband had the rabbit & biscuit, which I tasted, and it was out of this world.
Both came with a super vinegary side of greens; delicious acidic complement to the rich main courses.
Hubby had a passionfruit spritzer which was also delicious; I was driving so I just had a single glass of Pinot Grigio.
Our kids are 9 years old and very adventurous eaters; they shared the Asian invasion. A bit too spicy for the girl child but delicious.
We sat on the terrace and appreciated the beautiful (steamy!) setting, as well as the can of bug spray on the bar
We'll definitely be back, next time without kids and preferably with a driver so we can enjoy additional cooling cocktails
