Had lunch at Rowdy Joe's Saturday; Blue Cheese Cheesecake (kind of a quiche but very light and fluffy) and a lovely salad; my husband had a Cubano and fried polenta--everything was excellent.

Had the homemade ice cream for dessert which I didn't care for; kind of a "sticky" consistency.

They have a great wine list.

We went to Rowdy Joe's around 5 PM yesterday. As we were leaving, we found out that they have dinner specials that start at 6 PM. The wife and I split a blue cheese salad, chicken ale soup, and full rack of ribs. The food quality and service were very good. My wife thought the portions were on the smallish side however. We would definitely go back.

Been back to rowdy joes a couple of times now and I like the food, but the portion size is too small for the price in my mind. So its not worth the drive out to me. I feel like they keep you hungry so you'll buy the ice cream, to get your bill up higher. I totally understand keeping food cost's down but I also understand value for the money. Also the service is usually bad.

That's a shame that you had a bad experience at Blue Moon. I eat there quite often (once per week) and have had only a couple "off experiences" in several years. Typically the food is excellent. Last time I was there (3 weeks ago since I've been traveling a lot!) , they had some wonderful oysters that had been shipped in from the Gulf. Usually the salads are huge so maybe something was really wrong when you went...I've never had bad service there either so maybe it was just a really off-night. Brunch is also great there.

The dining room does get hot in the summer, especially on a crowded Friday night. if you do go again in the summer sit outside or at the bar where you can catch a breeze.

You've never noticed bad service at Blue Moon? The foods usually fine but the service is some of the worst I've EVER come across on this island and that is really saying a lot. I've even had horrible service with the owner/manager there and she just totally ignored it. Thats one of the very few places I can not stand.

I have had lunch twice at Blue Moon. The food was to die for and the service excellent. I keep meaning to get out there for dinner and even looked at their dinner menu while I was there for lunch. I guess I will have to try it for dinner and not let other posters experience sway me but I will say I am less enthused about going for dinner. Hate to waste the money.

Perhaps because I know many of the waitstaff, and am good friends with the owners I get treated better? I know that is no excuse and everyone should be treated very well, but it perhaps explains my lack of problems with service there...

Went to Off the Wall last night, great time. Open mike night with the Off the Wall band. Several different musicians get up and sing or play.
Had the pizza, which was great. Awesome Bushwacker, and the service was excellent.
Thanks to them for a fun night.

Went to Breezez for the first time in forever. Their Happy Hour is a good deal. it's from 4-7 and all drinks have discounts but you have to sit at the bar to get the discount. we even got our drinks in a pint glass and were charged the regular happy hour amount (light rum/oj/cran in a huge glass - $2.00!). The regular price is $3.75 so it's not so bad anyways. Domestic Beer goes from $3 to $2.50, Imports from $3.50 to 2.75 or something like that. Dinner prices were high, not too many inexpensive options but we ended up not being so hungry and shared Fettuccini Alfredo - it was good. They also have lots of cameras up now, hopefully they won't have the same robbery problems as before.

3 friends (Cameron, Madison, Alexander) go out to dinner every Tuesday night:
1st week: Bogeys
Alexander: Champagne Chicken- good chicken, nothing overly special but quality food abeit a bit pricey
Cameron: The other chicken item- similar review
Madison: M.I.A.
Atmosphere: top notch, right on the ocean, very quiet
Service: not bad, waitress came around to check on drinks and ask how we were doing
Overall: Decent food with good service in a great atmosphere, abeit a bit pricey

2nd week: Rowdy Joes
Appetizer: Lamb Empinadas- which were delicious
Alexander: Cubano sandwich with fried polenta- sandwich was good, though not up to Quality standards
Cameron: Fish Tacos with friend polenta- hated the cabbage on top but otherwise good
Madison: M.I.A
Dessert: Cameron ordered an ice cream, which he said was very good
Atmosphere: cool, private restaurant, nothing major about it.
Service: below average, we ordered drinks and they didn't come back to ask if we wanted more...
Overall: Food was good but portions were small for the price, appetizer was $12 for 3 empinadas? really? Would return however, but not the best

3rd week: Pickled Greek
Appetizer: Spanakopita- very good, a dish I have ordered before other places and this was the best I have had yet
Alexander: Lamb Salvakia- you know what I mean, it was great
Cameron: Gyro- highly praised, exactly what he wanted
Madison: Chicken Salvakia- also highly praised
Atmosphere: not a whole lot going on, typical restaurant
Service: one of the best, waitress was very nice and polite and tended to the table often
Overall: the Uzo at the end was great, the food was top notch and the service was the best yet. The price was also half of what we have usually spent.

4th week: Blue Moon
Alexander: Jerk Chicken- spicy and delicious, but would have rather had the other chicken
Cameron: Shrimp Stuff Scallops- he loved it, some of the best seafood he said he'd had
Madison: Spinach and Artichoke Chicken- very good, but would have rather had the jerk chicken
Atmosphere: sadly, didn't go on a blues night, but was very relaxed
Service: below average, not bad, but not great, no problems
Overall: Food was delicious, prices were on the higher side but not bad, service wasn't as bad as people have said but we were one of the few people there at the time. Voted the 2nd best we've been to yet after Pickled Greek.

5th week: Coconuts
Appetizer: Jalepeno Poppers and Onion Rings
Everyone got the Chicken Enchiladas after we heard it was the best Tex-Mex on the island, they didn't disappoint.
Atmosphere: another quiet restaurant/bar on the waterfront.
Service: above average, she was very attentive and polite
Overall: Food was surprising good and cheap, probably should have branched out but we all felt like Tex-Mex

6th week: Savant
Appetizer: Chef Special Eggroll (Mahi-Mahi)- amazing, one of the few times I ordered fish and it was delicious
Alexander: Maple Teryaki Pork Chops- the sauce was unique and tasty, the entire dish went together so well
Cameron: Gorgonzola and Horseradish Blackened Steak- He hadn't ordered a steak yet and did so here, he was it was everything he wanted
Madison: Chicken Red Thai Curry- said it was ok, but nothing overly to exciting
Dessert: Madison ordered the pecan, marshmellow swirl pie... no idea exactly what it was but she said it was good, we all tasted it and agreed
Atmosphere: have to sit outside, it has great atmosphere and was very romantic haha.
Service: very good, she came around often to refill even water, knew all the specials which we ordered 3. really felt catered too
Overall: This place is a bit expensive (the bill for 1 appetizer, 3 entrees, 1 dessert and 2 beers was $110 or so) but the quality and quantity of food was up there. Was one of the few places (the other being Coconuts where I didn't finish my meal because I was too full)

Heard about that at least 3 years. Do you still hear rumors about it? Haven't heard anything about that in a year or two. Assumed it was dead when she opened the other places. It would be really nice to have a grocery store out there, its what chicken charlies used to be.

I spoke with Lori last October about her new place out east. She was VERY excited about it. Said it was to be a large restaurant with store and deli, also. They had damage to their home from Omar and were dealing with that, too. But at that time it seemed like everything was going strong. You know how long it takes to get things done in the islands! Don't Stop the Carnival always comes to mind...big grin Beeston Hill deli is doing great from what we saw on our last visit. Climbing those stairs is the only drawback, but once inside--ah! the airconditioning! The aroma of wonderful food! You can eat in, or take out. She also has a couple of coolers for tuna/chicken/egg salads in to go containers, drinks and some vegetables. Also a free lending library.
