Went to Davy Jones Locker Friday night for dinner. 3 people at the bar and no one sitting at the tables. It was dead in town.
We ended up just ordering a pizza, It was delicious. Nice thin crust. We ordered a large with pepperoni and mushroom. It was $24. It's $16 for a large pizza, add $4 per topping. A little pricy for pizza but it was damn good.
I love when I see the commercials for Domino's and pizza hut in the states charging $10 for a large pizza with lots of toppings. I do miss those prices.
They did have a guy who was playing acoustic guitar who was very good. His name is Pete Snow. He plays there 6 nights a week. Go check him out.

We get the Domino's version of a "supreme" (don't remember what they call it), Mon.-Thurs. for $12.99. (STX Golden Rock) It's quite good. We usually get three meals out of it.

We went to Pizza Hut last Saturday on a lark, haven't been there in At Least five years and it was always bad when we tried. This last Saturday it was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. They were using the heavy iron skillets to cook it, so the pan crust was supper crispy. We had the super supreme and the toppings were piled very high with just the right amount of cheese. It was so wonderful, I keep telling everyone. Cause I can't stand Davy Jones, Napeleon's is average but cheap, same with Dominios, the Mill can have excellent pizza as well but it's a bit hit or miss. So I now have a new favorite. smiling

my favorite pizza on island is Flat Iron Grill's Gourmet Portabello Mushroom pizza. In the states, it is Pizza Hut all the way.

I was sorry to find out that Good Spirits has new owners and their special last week was 'island chicken.' We really loved their BBQ. The woman answering the phone stated they had been open a few days and were keeping the name. I see they are hiring on the other board. There had been a notice on the door when we drove by, but didn't stop to read it. Best wishes.

No one who has lived on STX for any length of time would name an entree that.

Hi folks,

We'll be posting a little intro in another thread, but just wanted to reply regarding our special. We took over ownership of Good Spirits on Tuesday, and have worked hard to keep the doors open, no matter what. As we build up our supplies, our menu is in flux, but we plan to have a full, permanent menu by the end of the month.

We are still featuring BBQ.

The notice you saw on the door is to let customers know that, for now, we are cash only. Should have credit card terminal up and running by the end of the week or beginning of the following due to the holiday.

As for the chicken, our executive chef Chris MItchell, voted 2011 Best Chef in the VI by readers of the VI Daily News, did beautiful roasted chickens the other day. We sold a half chicken with rice and a side salad for $15. We'll be trying different specials to see what folks like before we make our menu permanent.

Thanks so much for the feedback. We hope you'll come in to taste our food and meet the new owners soon!

Jason

I have no opinion regarding the quality of your chicken, only that the name chosen is unfortunate. "Island chickens" (or, sometimes, "yard birds"wink are generally referred to the wild chickens that roam C'sted and F'sted at will. I ordered wings at a restaurant that is no longer open (so I won't defame), but there's were STILL FEATHERS on their "island chicken" special.

Words mean things here. I suggest a more appropriate, and appetizing, name.

Thank you for your feedback. The actual name of the special as it was on our board was "Island Roasted Chicken." We will be sure to choose a more appropriate name in the future. I can assure you, our chickens come from the finest suppliers and are thoroughly feather free. happy

speee1dy, was it Davy Jones locker?
I keep hearing an ad for a place called courtyard something. Is that the same place as davy jones or something different?

We didn't do Jump up last night but we did go to Eat @ Cane Bay, great food, wine, service and music.

The wife and I went to El Sol late yesterday afternoon. We had the chicken and rice with beans. We have enjoyed the food in the past and it's reasonably priced. However, I don't understand how it takes 30 minutes to serve food that's already cooked and sitting in a steam table. They seemed to have plenty of staff but they didn't seem like a model of efficiency.

I guess we'll go back, I rate them + on quality and value and - on service.

I agree, the service is really slow at El Sol. We only go for dinner, we like the grilled steaks and baked potato.

Just posted on The Trip Advisor:

Finally !!! Gelato on St. Croix !!”

Reviewed November 29, 2011 NEW

We are big fans of gelato and when we read about Jaccar Sorbets and Gelato, we had to find their store. It is in the Gallows Bay area, just east of Christianstead. It's not like gelato stores in Italy where you find large tubs of soft gelato ready to be scooped. Jaccar's gelato and sorbets are already frozen in cups which is understandable since it is so hot in St. Croix all the time. We tried their pumpkin, vanilla bean, and coconut gelato and lemon mint and mango mint sorbet. They were all delicious. They were so good we went back twice during our vacation.

Starfish Bakery/ Coffeeshop has had gelato since they opened. They used to have more flavors, but last time it was vanilla or chocolate, but still quite good. Unforth, when I asked about it, the counterperson acted like she didn't know what I was talking about. The owner had just come out and luckily caught it. Another case of bad help.
