I wanted to post my experience this afternoon at Coconuts in the spirit of providing some constructive feedback on a place I really like and want to see do well.

My wife and I spent a few hours there this afternoon for lunch. It was a Sunday and a cruise ship day. The place was busy with mostly shippers who, as everyone knows, have only a few hours on land to experience STX. There was only one person working the bar, and she was trying her best to serve everyone. But several times, I saw at least 10 people standing at the bar waiting to order, and they clearly were getting impatient (which is understandable, as I estimated it took at least 10 to 15 minutes for each person to get waited on). Some people gave up and left, while those who stuck it out only got a chance to order one round of drinks (and presumably would have ordered more if they had been able to get them more quickly).

Why did Coconuts only have one bartender on a Sunday afternoon cruise ship day? And why didn't one of the owners (both of whom were on site) not pitch in to help behind the bar when the lines got so long? Wouldn't it make sense to have a tub of ice and beer set up somewhere on the grounds for people who just want to buy a bottle of beer? One would think you'd be able to sell a ton of bottle beer to shippers if you make it easy for them, right?

Today isn't the first weekend day I've been there where the service has been painfully slow and really inattentive. Two weeks ago I was there on another Sunday and the place was packed for a stateside band. We were sitting at one of the the picnic tables and had to go to the bar to order drinks and food--and no one ever checked with us after delivering our food to see if we wanted to order anything else. If we did want something else, we had to decide whether it was worth waiting in line at the bar for 10 minutes or not. If we hadn't been there to see the band, we would have left. Even so, we ended up buying way less than we would have if someone had been making rounds to take orders.

My point is not at all to bash Coconuts--I love the place--but rather, to suggest some simple changes they could consider to make the experience better for customers (and for time-pressed tourists, especially) and make more money in the process.

bernie, at most but the high end restaurants, the servers never seem to come back and check on you. sad way to do business.

They should have a waitress working the beach. They could sell a ton of drinks. They would need an extra bartender if they do that.
Even if they just hire extra help for cruise ship days.
You have to make the money when you can.

Where do you find these extra people to work? You can't employ them everyday and if there is a ship in and they work at another bar or restaurant, they're already working. I know a dozen places looking for help. I already work almost everyday as it is.

Bad Service at Subway Golden Rock

I had heard that the SUBWAY in Golden Rock had been bought and new owner Collin Hodge (of Massive Productions and A Taste of St. Croix fame) had made some much needed improvements. I hadn't eaten at Subway on STX for years since it had become much like the golden arches...bad service, extremely long wait times, we all know the rest.

I began frequentling the SUBWAY again a few times a week about a month ago and it seemed fine until yesterday.

Imagine ordering a Cold Cut Trio and finding that they have no tomatoes, no cucumbers, no this and no that, except lettuce, peppers, onions and mushrooms.

When I asked for the mushrooms, I was told by the server that "mushrooms are $1.00 extra".

When I protested, the server said that was thier policy...mushrooms (likely the cheapest veg they offer) are extra.

I pointed out that there was nothing on thier menu board suggesting "mushrooms are extra" but she would not relent.

I continued to question this "policy" but she couldnt care less at this point and just sucked her teeth and looked away.

I took my boring SUBWAY sandwich and just walked away in disgust.

Sorry Collin...I gave it a try but your staff blew it....again.

I should have known better.

I've eaten at Waves three times in the last month or so. Just kind of stumbled on it. Food's fantastic.

The Waves is on our "bucket list" of places to eat before we leave STX Tuesday 5/8. They are nothing short of top shelf.

Mother's Day Brunch at EAT at Cane Bay.....it doesn't get any better.
Our table had:
- Steak & Eggs, a delicious Strip with sunny side up
- Pancakes with bacon and sausage built in
- Crepes: lobster, shrimp and mahi
- Omlette with all pork products

Just had pretty good Middle Eastern (a first for me on STX) cuisine from the new food truck at the unopened but new gas station in Princess. I got the sampler platter which had about 6 different things on it for $11 which was the most expensive item on the menu. Most other items on the menu were around $8.

I really enjoyed it a lot, something different and refereshing. I wish I could name everything I had, there was a meatball type thing, grape leafs stuffed with rice and meet, hummus, and 3 salad type of items served with a pita. I would recommend the place although it took a while for us to get our food, I think he's still working things out as he's only been open for a day.

He has falafal and Sharwma sandwich's at around $8 too, I have a feelign I will be picking them up quite often as I live in JF and the truck is close by!

I heard that Blue Water Terrace on St. Croix has a weekly seafood night and wondered if anyone here has gone to it? If so, how was it? Thanks -

It's been so long since I posted on here but, with a newborn we ont get out much.

I've done the seafood thing at blue-water and it is not buffet....or it wasn't in March/April. It is delicious and what I didn't finish they allowed me to bring home...not always he case with all-you-can-eat.
We also had Laurie & Paulie cater our baby-naming ceremony with bagels, lox, & cream cheese platters... They did an excellent job.

Golden rail, top-side, anx brew pub, Are all on my list of 3strikes...and we're not going back.

This week we had deliciousness from Sihng's & pickled Greek.. Both were great.

Bump! It's been a while. Probably because so much is closed right now.

Looking forward to trying castaways when they open.

Went to off the wall a couple of weeks ago & tried the turkey Ruben (aka Rachel). I think I like good spirit's version better! But I do love off the Wally's chicken salad.

What's new? When do our favorite places re-open?

did go to golden rail for taco night last wednesday-it was actually pretty good and service was okay. i did not get to scrutinize the bill so i don't know if we were over charged for anything, which has happened in the past.

Good Spirits is OPEN again! I saw the lights on yesterday so we stopped in. They don't have everything on their menu in stock yet (tater tots)
but they seemed to have a good amount of stuff available.
