What about the new one that opened this year up at Queen's Quarter's old Reminisce restaurant? Didn't they add a healthy food restaurant there? Had a catchy name? I hope it hangs in there until we can get back to the island! I love that location.
Cheese and Bread and it's the woman from South Shore Cafe. I've never been or even heard anything though.

Diane from South Shore. If you are on Facebook check out their page. Menu is posted there.

I believe Cheese N Bread is only open for breakfast & lunch - no dinner. I have heard it is really good food.

Cheese N' Bread is a great vegetarian type place. I've had a few of Diane's signature Cheese N' bread sandwiches and they are awesome. Check her out for breakfast or lunch but not open for dinner.

Tuesday night we went to Salud. In nine years we have never eaten there as always heard it was very expensive.
The food was great. The prices were reasonable.
However I don't know if we will ever go back! They had a band in that little space ( they would have been quite good if they were in a bigger venue), it was so loud that we had to almost yell at each other to have a conversation.
We did NOT go to a concert, we went to have a nice dinner with friends and celebrate two birthdays.
Several of our party left early, as soon as they finished their main course. All of our group complained to each other about it, and two asked the waitress to ask them to tone it down.
WHY would they have a band that plays so loud in that small of space is beyond me.mad

Were they too loud or are you just to old? lol I'm kidding I'm kidding. I hate that too. I'll never understand why the music is so loud in those Santo bars either.

Yep, Dec. 22 is their last day open, personal and economic reasons. It's a shame all around, Jason and Bennett are both friends of ours.

It seem to be a cultural thing with Santos and others of spanish descent. One I am not into.
If I go out to dinner with friends, it's to enjoy their conversation as well as the company and the food.
Not a big fan of sports bars withTV's blaring nor gyms with music cranked so loud when you're the only one there.
If you're out to listen to a band or a concert, that's different and expected.
I really like quiet. Good thing I live where I do since all I am listening to is the sound of the ocean, the leaves rustling in wind and the occassional deluge that blows by several times a day, lately!

I've been to SALUD 3 times. So loud every time that you couldn't converse.
And don't go on wine tasting nights if you expect to talk or hear your dinner partners......

Thanks for letting us know that nothing has changed.

Thanks for the organic tips...as to the liver, I did toxic waste spill work before Hugo (RR tank car of 90% formaldehyde and such), plus worked downwind of Hess freediving on a seaweed transplant experiment, then after Hugo worked the oil spills and environmental assessments and lived in a poorly ventilated restaurant with a generator (Rogue's) for weeks. Multiple abuse syndrome, plus got Lyme disease that doesn't help much, and work in the Post Office with lots of chemicals around. Actually you can have a damaged liver and not know it, it often expresses as sinus problems or headaches or you vex' too much. Hope someday to collect info on Hugo resident's health problems. Not moving back full-time, but maybe building a new foothold on the scrap of land left to us (de man still ain't paid we for the 'ting we had to sell in 1974 for inheritance tax -- now Hibiscus Beach). Home soon, woo-hoo!

I like Miriam's, $2 tacos, conch salad is awesome. Brew pub has decent beer great view but weak on food quality. Ital in Paradise I was impressed with food and price. Had salmon, spinach gluten free pasta salad all organic non GMO for $12. Agree that chicken shack is rock solid on food and value. Cheeseburgers has poor service maybe because 17% tip is automatically included but they are bold enough to ask if you want change from $20 on a $12 ticket, I find the burgers decent but not worth a drive to get eaten alive by bugs and attitude.

Bluewater Terrace also adds 20% tip to their $20.00 meals. Too bad that on my visit there last week, the service wasn't worth 20%. After all, why should the waitress expend any effort when she automatically gets a great tip? Maybe that's why she didn't tell us about the specials, since they aren't subject to the mandatory tip.

Since when have all these restaurants on St. Croix started adding mandatory tips? Sorry, I'm a good tipper, but I would stop going to those restaurants, especially when the service is really spotty, like it can be at Bluewater.

Edited to add: I would also tell them why I stopped coming, so they had feedback on their new policies...

Juliekay, I agree with you on the tipping. We went to the Bluewater Grill yesterday and they added a 20% tip to our bill and on the slip we were to sign they also left a space for the tip without mentioning that it was already added. Service was OK but not worth 20%, we are usually good tippers if we get good service. Tipping charges were never mentioned to us when the check was presented, or listed on the special Christmas menu. We won't go back to that restaurant.

The Bluewater Terrace 20% tip is mentioned on the menu, at the bottom of the $20.00 specials list.

i am a good tipper 20% or more as long as the service is good and the server is friendly. i hate auto tips and i am not fond of cheesebergers to begin with .

i hate it when they do not mention the added tip. just common courtesy to do so

I agree with you, speee1dy.
I am a good tipper also depending on the sevice.
I know of one at least restaurant here on Stt that the tip is included. Depending on which server you get, it is hit or miss if you get good service or not.
I always look over the bill carefully to see if the tip is included and the percentage. If it is less than 20% and I think think the server deserves more, I will give an extra % tip.

The restaurant that has the tip included, the last time I was there, the server's friends were there that night and he spent more time with them talking and carrying on than taking care of his customers. We wanted more drinks, but couldn't get his attention, so we just left. We haven't been back as of yet.

Exactly! I support servers earning a living wage - hence why I generally tip well - but they gotta work, just like anyone else. When I can see them chatting away at the bar while my replacement drink is just sitting there getting warm waiting to be brought to me, well, I don't feel like paying that mandatory 20%.

Then don't and if they ask why, tell them. They can't force you to tip 20% for crappy service.
20% should be for extremely excellent service.thumbs up

I give 20% as a rule, unless service is bad, and even then it is only 15% - if it's REALLY bad I'll talk with the manager/owner vs. just taking it out of the tip. I waited tables to pay my way through college and I understand what most servers are going through.

BUT, if you're being lazy or just plain ignoring your customers, then your management shouldn't enforce a 20% gratuity to make up for the tips you're not earning. It goes both ways. Like I said above, I'd stop eating there and would tell the owners why. Putting up with bad service is one thing, but putting up with it and then being billed to pay for it doesn't work. I hope Bluewater and Cheeseburgers see this pretty quickly, people are willing to go other places.
