Hi, I'm in the country on STT and many of my beloved shoes are getting moldy. Is there a fix or do they have to go to the dumpster? Anyone know? If all of my drum heads mold, I will freak out!

my leather frequently gets moldy. I suggest that you buy online the heating rods for your closets ( i will check for the site name that we used), the heating rods are so far working

I live on STT's north side and through mold attrition have rid myself of all leather -- shoes, belts, luggage, etc. Schemes to remove mold from leather only make it look like the mold is gone; the mold is still there and will infest other items in your closet.

I'm on STT North side too.
My CANVAS briefcase is moldy. Geesh! I got it to replace the leather one.
So much for that bright idea.

(I just wash it off with damn paper towels and it's good for a week or much less than a week, depending on the weather)

I knew that my leather shoes and goods were at risk but what really surprised me is that the rubber (or whatever) soles of my shoes rot quickly! One time I dug out my hiking boots and was hacking my way around some land. Got a bit lost, turned around to look and saw the sole of a boot. Strange, didn't recall seeing it before. Went forward, turned around again, saw another sole. Took another step and the cactus went through the remaining cloth on the bottom of my shoe and I realized the problem.

Since then I've had other shoe casualties.

I have gone thru several pairs of rubber shole shoes as well.

Rubber bottom shoes/boots if heat dried tend to stiffen and crack. The will separate from the shoe/boot, this is called Dry Rot. not mold.

The same thing happened to me! I bought two pairs of sneakers in the states, wore one pair and saved the other for a couple of years until the the first pair wore out. I put on the second pair, fresh from the box but two years old, and walked out of the rubber sole in Cost U Less. Very weird that the adhesive failed, but the sole was still pliable, and seemed normal and like new. I still stock up on some things when I visit the states, but I no longer stock up on sneakers.

Buying two of the same sneaker isn't a bad idea. Just rotate them instead of stowing one for a couple of years. I remember I was taught to do that with shoes anyway. Not that I do...it's Birkies for me pretty much everyday.

I wonder about the different leathers, too. My Zora's sandals seem to get the most mold (admittedly, I don't wear them). The leather seems more "natural", not treated, like other shoes and bags.

When I moved here 4 years ago, I placed all my excess leather in Space Bags. Works great, nothing has molded or rotted, even if I wear something for a week then put it back in.

The space bags are a great idea. No air for mold to grow. Anywho, those with shoe issues on STT should visit the cobbler at Four Winds in Tutu. He's across from the police sub-station. He's cheap and good. Already, had him save a pair of sandals. Replacing rubber soles should be a cinch.
