On Leaving (Again)

Well, I barely made it a month this time 'round. Looks like I'm leaving this island (again), this board (again), and this life (probably again).

My profile says something four or six years as a registered poster, but I know I've been on here since '02-'03, something like that. Maybe under a different name. So long ago I don't remember.

In any event, I know I haven't been everyone's favorite person here, but some of you said I was funny and sometimes even (gasp!) right, and some of you hated everything I had to say. That's okay. Where would be be without debate? Sometimes it got heated and I'm sure I got too personal more than once, and for that, I'm sorry. No offense was ever really intended. (Now, if you got an angry PM, that might be different.)

Anyway, I wish you all well, whether you live here or used to or are about to. The islands are a different sort of place from anywhere else I've ever lived, and I've lived all over the world. Sometimes they're really scary, but sometimes they can be magical as well.

Take care, all.

Fair winds, following seas,
IT

Thanks. That means a lot. I noticed there was a huge pile of trash at the Udall trail steps last weekend. Obviously someone cleaned it off the beach (Thank you, stranger!), but then never packed it in up the trail. And it was not all "sea detritus" (flotsam?) either, but party people who left their bottles and food trash behind. (And Bacardi? REALLY, PEOPLE? BACARDI?)

And, sorry, I meant to be clearer. I am very ill, which is why I have to leave. I do not expect to see Christmas.

IT

at times like this, there are things that have been shown to be very helpful (if your open to them):

[en.wikipedia.org]

[aeon.co]

if this advice is not something you are willing to consider than at least know it comes from a person caring that another person has all the tools available to assist in difficult times.

Best of luck in your future adventures, sounds like the biggest one ever is coming up.

Hope all will turns out ok. You are quite a trip. It was a good ride.

Ronnie

PS. What is your name? Is it really Iris Tramm which is uncanny as there is a character in Hermon Wouk's book Don't Stop the Carnival with the same name. Good persona for being on an island.

Iris, I don't know what your illness is but I wish you well. I have been told 3 times in my life that I had a very serious illness and I'm still here. I don't know why. Thank you for all your contributions to the message board. If they were popular or not. No matter. You made a difference. Making a difference in life is such a good thing. It makes everyone think. I am quoting my favorite poem. A poem I live by. Good luck Iris. Fair winds!

Do not go gentle into that good night
Dylan Thomas, 1914 - 1953
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Dear Iris - No one who saw it will ever forget your blog from a few years back. It was inspiring, funny and you came quite close to describing the other-worldly experience which is St. Croix. Best wishes.

Never got a chance to know you even on this board but enjoyed what little posts I did read of yours. Just know some Guy in Ohio took a little time today to think of you and wish you only the best. Positive thoughts being sent your way.
