How does straight talk work on stx? Is the service ok, also, are there any stores in town that sell straight talk cards? I heard there was a walmart on st John and straight talk works there but I'm wondering about st croix. THANKS!

There is no Walmart in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The closest one is Puerto Rico. Not sure if Straight Talk works in VI.

Their website says specifically that they cannot be used outside the continental US but you could always call and ask.

Your best bet is AT&T. It works all over STT. No dropped calls, 4GLTE service every where.
Your best bet is to check their coverage map but, I'll take an educated guess and say it will not work well here. OT already stated it will not work outside the US.
Verizon works on here but with huge roaming charges. You may find the same charges with straight talk.

On STX, I've found ATT works best.

AT&T works well except in the areas that have no cell signal at all & people I know with Sprint say about the same. My husband has Tracfone, perhaps similar to Straight talk & it hardly works anywhere & we mostly just use it for texts so that I don't need to add a text pkg. So if Straight Talk tells you it will work here without roaming charges, it probably will but you may be in for some quality issues. The way he gets his minutes, since we have no Walmart is walmart.com.

We have one phone on Straight Talk in STX. It costs half the price of my ATT contract. It works the same as my ATT phone, uses the same network. You can buy the SIM card online, just make sure you get the Straight talk that is for ATT network.

I've been using Cricket Wireless which also runs on AT&T's network in the USVI. Have had absolutely no issues in STX. Compared to Straight talk it is maybe $5/month cheaper (i pay $35 for unlimited voice & text & 2.5GB data) and was a lot easier to setup and use. Popped a sim card into my iphone and that was it.

Does anyone know if Cricket or Straighttalk have pay as you go phones rather than contracts? I will be in STX almost a month (yay!) in July and I sure can't use my Verizon.

The AT&T go-phones are a very popular choice for that purpose.

Cricket is a pay as you go phone that was bought out by ART. If you go on their website and look at the coverage map you will see it covers STX ( not sure of the other usvi islands since we are moving to STX). We have Cricket and it is AWESOME! We will keep it when moving. They have family plans. They are supercheap. Right now we are on their "old" system (before the Att buyout) and only pay $57 a month for 2 phones.

You can get them on line if there's not an outlet nearby:

I purchased a AT&T go phone before I went on my trip to St Croix. I have Verizon currently so by reading all the information here on this forum I knew Verizon would not work. The AT&T go phone worked just about everywhere. There were a few spots like near Cane Bay and some spots out in the east end where signal was not good. However, whenever the signal went out I was still able to use GPS. It still tracked us somehow but did not talk. It just showed us on a map and it kept tracking us. So we could still see where we were and the roads etc.

I ordered it off the AT&T website. I also requested my number to be a Virgin Island number because I plan on keeping the phone and service since we will be coming down there a lot in the future. I pay 45 dollars for unlimited talk, text and 1.5gigs of data. Now they have a rollover for data usage if you renew your service by a certain date for the next month. Other carriers may be cheaper but so far I have had great service with this phone.
