Smart Meters?

Like many of you I received notice in the mail about Wapa's plan to install smart meters in our homes. I decided to do some research on what a "Smart Meter" is. Here's what I found.

[refusesmartmeter.com]

Produces EMF that are harmful to the residents;

Invades the privacy of the residents;

Creates an unacceptable degree of
uncertainty about actual utility
usage and legally appropriate utility charges; and,

Constitutes an unwarranted infringement upon the Constitutional,
legal and property rights of the residents

This is just the tip of the sword and the beginning of big brother watching what we do in the privacy of our own homes.

If I want to wash clothes all day and all night, who cares as long as I pay the bill. I don't need the police coming to my home asking me why I wash clothes at 3am. That is my business!

Only as a community can we put a stop to this invasion of our privacy. The voices of many are stronger than the voice of one.

Say no to smart meters, keep the old analog meter.

Very one sided post. Most of it is BS.

Does anyone know if the new smart(?)meters have builtin wifi and a webserver? It would be very cool if we could login to them and track our own usage.

if like the last analog meter supplied, they can adjust the meter to read faster or slower with a simple magnet source, in addition to a small turn of a screw within the sealed cover prior to mounting on the house. they can help themselves to anything over the normal stateside meters since they refuse to supply a certificate of compliance to normal standards of the industry.
I had my last WAPA meter calculated by the standards of its manufacture and also General Electric Company meter department compliance rules...it was over 20% higher in recorded usage than I was really using...they never confirmed the usage just immediately replaced the meter...which I am going to test again next week when I have some spare time.
I hope the meter is up to spec...the manufacturer has given me certification testing info so that I can test the meter myself for accuracy to less than a fraction of 1%.
Lets see how they are doing!

look you meter up on Google....probably a GE unit if a smart design.
use the model number on the GE web site and get the manual...there is a chapter on testing and calibration...easy to follow.
Just need to make some test parts: known load (5000 to 7500 watt item), stop watch, pad and pencil, and the ability to count the revolution digits on the meter..as explained in the manuals instructions.
You will need to only have the known load on the meter...the rest of the house needs to be "off" and not interfering with the load test.

If you dig through the various press releases, it looks like WAPA is installing the Itron CENTRON II with a TANTALUS TC-1120-RD 900Mhz radio for communication.

FYI -
I called WAPA for more info. They said no opt-out option on STX.

When asked for response to the negative health info on the internet about Smartmeters, they couldn't find anything on their own WAPA website, and promised to add a new statement to the press release section of WAPA website.

Meantime they gave an informative link about SmartMeters on the American Cancer Association website. Long ACA article also talks a bit about cellphones and other ubiquitous modern radiation sources.

My meter is so far away from my house that I can barely see it much less worry about how much radiation its emitting. Plus, I have solar panels and no longer receive a WAPA bill with a balance due anyway.

If WAPA finds my electricity usage interesting enough to want to spend money employing someone to monitor me, I say go for it. I use most of my electricity to power my pool pump and hot tub anyway.

You just got more radiation writing your post than you'll get from your smart meter in a month.
