Not exactly true. The only reason they are involved is because the purchaser is asking for concessions only the govt can grant. If there were no concessions being sought the govt would have no input.

This article may help explain:

The bottom line is that nothing is going to happen. No Terminal, no jobs, and the government may well end up with a pile of scrap that they can't use.

Is Atlantic Basin Refining (ABR) still in the game? I have not read or heard anything regarding another possible go at it.

No, ABR was soundly rejected the first time and went on to other things.

This may help now that the requirement for the VI Government to sign off on unconditional release of claims against Hovensa, etc., has been removed.

I hope the winning bid is for the whole refinery and not just the terminal but anything is better than nothing at this point.

It'll be interesting to see who else steps up to the plate and what terms they want but this eliminates a huge hurdle which was a deal killer from the get go. I'm hoping for the best for you, STX. It really affects all of us.

Anyone know the purpose of the one little smokestack that came back to life this week? It's been puffing away for a couple of days now...

It could be the exhaust for the LPG fueled generator.

And why would it be running?
A test?
Just curious.

Because they don't get electricity from WAPA.

If it was potentially being bought for something else beside oil refinery I can understand but not for oil related right now. I tried for many years to get a job there as a Water/Wastewater Treatment Operator. They were always wanting folks with College Degrees. Now I'm glad I got passed over, ha ha.

Too bad. The wastewater plant is still manned and operating.
