Good luck.
Hope you get it back in one piece.
Looks like the mechanics/shop will owe you, big time!

Holy crap! That sucks! I'll keep an eye out.
So that is Good Day Automotive? My mechanic is not far from NAPA and he said there's a bunch of lowlifes around there and he is always super careful because of that.

If you have a signed repair order sue them. If you just dropped it off and handed over the keys good luck.

Anyone have a suggestion for a good lawyer for this? Our original one doesn't do this kind of thing.

My wife and I know what you're going through. The police eventually found our car when it was stolen but the thieves had removed the engine and other parts.
People on the Message Board were helpful and genuinely sympathetic. Good luck.

Liability only. It's a 97 lol. This is precisely why I tell people to have an O-Sh*# fund when they move here. We do so we can buy a new car and replenish it over the next year.

We also have guardian and they were asking all these WAY probing questions. I felt so uncorfortable I told my fiancé to stop. I don't understand why they needed to know so much for canceling the policy but we just decided to leave.

So no one here has a lawyer to suggest?

I don't know a STX lawyer to recommend.

It would seem to me - not a lawyer either -- that your only recourse for some financial remuneration could come from the auto shop - for the value of a 20 year old car at most of course - and small claims might be an option on that route - you might not need a lawyer - considering the cost of their services and the amount recoverable if you prevailed in court why not try to learn how to file your own claim and attempt to have the court force the auto shop to pay you the value of the car - which you will have to have some good proof of.

Always wise to have that xtra fund for emergencies here.

Isn't the Good Day Automotive willing to settle out of court to avoid bad publicity and going to court, whether small claims or not?

Most auto repair shops have fine print on the service orders disavowing all responsibility to any theft, vandalism, etc to vehicles left in their possession. Now problems resulting from gross negligence may be ripe for a law suit or court claim. The folks who vehicles were in the tire shop that burned probably found that out. Do you have a written service order from them?

A new year and a new ride!

Write it off to experience - how much is your time worth to legally pursue this?

^ Feel free to deposit $ into my account for new said car. Maybe you have 6-8k to toss around but we don't... especially since I am saving to MOVE off STX the second we can back to STT.

I cant write more just yet on this situation but I will once I get a couple things figured out. All valid questions but I better keep shut until I go one of two routes.

If you can't afford to replace your car, then you should have more than just liability insurance coverage. I suspect you decided it wasn't worth having theft or collision coverage on a car valued at $3,000 to $4,000.

You made the choice not to cover theft through insurance and the responsibility to replace the car may now be yours. That's the risk you took.

It's really too bad your car was stolen - but that's a crime that happens so often (at least here in FL) the police take a report and tell you good luck with that.

The KBB value based on the year with base equipment and I estimated 90k miles is between $720.00 and $1237.00. That's high considering it is nearly a twenty year old vehicle.

I've got a 97 Toyota Tacoma/standard 4WD in excellent condition with low miles.

I'm constantly being asked if I want to sell it over and above any blue book value. It runs perfectly. No rust, dents, 1 little ding.
My insurance company wouldn't pay what it's actually worth if it were stolen. Certainly not what I can sell it for.

Lmfao KBB in the VI? Why don't you just run a car fax while you're at it. Oookkk, sausage what are u a newb? Dying laughing over here bro. Yes we can buy a new car with our savings, that is our emergency money but thanks for looking down on me from your stateside soapbox gator. Chupes.

FYI the exact same CRV with double the miles our had (67k) is on STT for 5k right now. Stateside car prices don't apply here and we all know this.

The same thing could have happened to you on STT any day of the week. I wouldn't blame the island.
