It was more surreal for us than shocking, I suppose, although I understand what you are saying, speee1dy. 11 am, on a Wednesday, at your place of business and a guy who owes YOU money (not the other way around) decides he should shoot you rather than pay (part!!!!) of his bill. This was not gang related, this was not being in a sketchy part of the island at a known hour of when there might be 'trouble', this was not really any kind of a revenge situation....a regular work day....at your own business. Just to make it even more 'shocking' - the guy hung around for several minutes afterwards...he didn't haul ass and run. When he did decide to drive away, he was apprehended fairly quickly on the bypass. Arrested, in jail less than 48 hours, posted his 75k bail (the FULL amount, not the 10% only that they usually have to) and was partying on Buck Island New Year's. Of course he had 75k somewhere to post bail, but not 42k (or 30k that my husband was willing to settle on) to pay his f'ing bill). And, to really rub salt in the wound, so to speak - has anything been done thus far to prosecute? Nope...even though 2 people are pressing charges (my husband, who was shot by this a'hole, and one of his employees who had the gun pointed at his face by the a'hole). Sad to me that it is this way here....sad that this is 'normal' and somehow accepted, on some level....just pathetic.

Its a shame that honest people have to be subject to such turmoil everyday. After awhile it all builds up inside of you and you just want to go somewhere else and start a fresh new life. But that is easier said than done. People are tired of living worrying about crime, poor healthcare, crumbling roads, high food prices, awful education system, dishonest politicians who just always seem to get re-elected. Who need this. Life is to short, and the future is not guaranteed so why put up with this condition if you don't have to? I realize there are tradeoffs that you have to make in life, things don't always go your way but there seems to be such an heightened amount of sheer disrespect for others it has me worried about the future of our society. I too now find myself looking for a place that I can afford that provides a better quality of life. I guess there is no such thing as Paradise, not even here in America's Paradise.

It's a survival trait of ours, to always look for the "bad"; but in doing so we often don't see or pay much attention to the "good" that is also right there (most things are balanced).

Did you know that historically ~20% of income was spent on food? even with the "high food" prices of today we are spending far less than that...

There's a lot of good going on, sometimes you just have to dig a bit more to find it.

Maybe we are spending less percentage on food because other prices (electricity, healthcare ...etc) are so expensive we don't have any money to spend on food.

Citylist, I assume you are asking me that question? Absolutely NOTHING has happened to him, and most likely won't until our attorney continues to bug the hell out of the prosecutor on STX. It has now been over 6 weeks...not a word
