Hello,
My name is Liz. I am currently a registered dental hygienist from Maryland with dental assisting background. I am enrolled in online classes for my Master's in Dental Hygiene and am looking to move and become employed as a dental hygienist in St. Thomas. Does anyone know of any dentists looking for a hard working hygienist on the island? I already have the application started for transfer of my hygiene license and I am looking for a lead to follow. I will be down in may to disburse my resume to local offices smiling

You'll need to be licensed to work in VI.
It can take awhile.

Search the archives; I'm pretty sure someone else had a similar topic recently. By "awhile" Alana means many months.

The dentist I was seeing in STT had a hygienist who left island to relocate back stateside. He has an office in STX as well and would fly the hygienist over a couple times a week from STX to fill in until they could find a permanent person. They were always busy and the office was well run.
There are many dentists offices in the VI.
The name of the dentist I was using is Duanne Jones.
VI Dental Center located in the Foothills Professional Building behind the Hospital. 340- 776-6056.
Donald Pomeranz is also very good.
Here's a link for the VI phone book. [www.viphonebook.com]

It's best to call the Licensing Dept., directly.
I've always dealt with Mrs. Jeffers or Tiffany Grovsner for my license and renewals. If you don't deal with them, make sure you get the name and extension for they person you are getting your information from so you can follow up.

It is a time consuming and lengthy process.

Good luck to you.
Let us know how it goes!

I have contacted Mrs. Sam and already started the application process. I know it may take awhile to obtain my license in STT. Does Mrs. Jeffers or Tiffany Grovsner deal with dental hygiene licenses for the USVI? If so, what are their extensions in case I need more information? Thanks for all your help! I reached out to those DDS' and emailed my resume and plan to stop by their office's in May. smiling

I've only dealt with them for my real estate license and renewals over the years. I can't say if they have oversight over other licenses.
You can call and ask.
Whatever government office you deal with, it's a good idea to get the name, email and extension of person you've contacted.
Good luck in May!

Liz: You may want to talk to one of the dental hygienists. I am fairly sure that they do not have territorial licensure, but that they are required to have a license, so they usually keep a stateside one. The rules may have changed, but I know it was like that at one point.

Edited because I just saw this: [stthomassource.com]

Would you consider STX? If so, my husband is the Chief Dental Officer at at clinic there and would love to see your resume.

I would consider! Please email me at Lizkarmasek06@yahoo.com and I will forward my resume! With my Master's underway, I am hoping to one day work in a public health setting. I am open minded to continuing clinical chairside at which ever island, but one day would like to implement more access to dental care smiling

May I have his contact information? I will be on STT the first week of May and may be able to hand deliver my resume to him in person! smiling

STT and STX are very different, IMO.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
Give both a good look.
