Is wifi reliable on STT to hold a telecommuting job?

I'm planning on telecommuting back to the states for work, at least temporarily. How reliable is the wifi on STT? We will be living somewhere a few minutes above/overlooking Charlotte Amalie. I understand that WAPA goes out frequently, but am less clear about how reliable the internet is. Are there ways to keep it running stably? What methods have people found to keep it consistent?

Thanks in advance,

And if the BBVI goes out and you have a good cell phone signal you can use personal hot spot with your smart phone as a backup.

Redundancy is the name of the game. Depending on how important it is to have 100% uptime, you'll want to have your primary ISP, a backup ISP for when primary is out/unusable slow, and also a hotspot (your phone or a separate device) as a failsafe. If you use your cell phone as a hotspot and don't have a landline, call quality and internet quality may both suffer if you have to use phone and Internet at once.

In addition to having a generator, know where else you can go that will have power (in case your gen fails) and how long it will take you to get set up there.

You will rarely need to get all the way down to Plan E from Plan A, but having Plans B through E is still important so you can switch over quickly when needed.

I'm with Broadband VI and there is some great advice in this thread.
No Internet Service Provider is perfect. All will have issues at some point. If your need for Internet is mission-critical (work, business, facebook addict, etc) you will need a backup connection at some point.

That being said, we have a lot of customers who work remotely from home.
