USPS Mail Service - St. Croix

Hi Folks!

This has likely been asked / explained before. I'm new to the forum and still getting used to using the search tool effectively.

My wife and I just purchased a home on St. Croix and plan on eventually relocating there permanently. Until then, we'll simply be traveling back & forth every month or so while we fix it up.

My question revolves around receiving USPS mail. From what I've read, it seems like most people just pick a post office near their home and get a PO Box (assuming the nearest post office has one available). However, what happens if someone tries to send us mail to our physical address? Our house, like many, does not have USPS delivery. Would this mail just go the local post office and we would have to make regular visits? Is there some way to have this automatically routed to a PO Box? I'm kind of at a loss and feel like this is a dumb question. haha.

Thanks!

You may not get your mail if your address has no mail delivery service.

When you file a change of address, your mail will go to whatever P.O. Box address you've listed. It's also best to send or contact any service, etc., that you expect to receive mail or bills from. There are also private mail services that may be more suitable than a USPS mail box to use if you're not on island full time to receive your mail. They can forward mail should you not be able to be on island to receive mail.

If you don't plan on living here for awhile, it may be best to use your stateside address until you make the move, acquire a local mailing address from either the P.O. or private mail service.

Good luck.

You're gonna need a PO. You'll eventually need something from somewhere online and can't get it without an addy.

Just make sure that for the few instances where you actually need to give your physical address, you specify no mail can be sent there, and ensure they have your valid mailing address. Local entities understand that not everyone gets direct mail delivery here and won't bat an eyelash. Never say never, but in the 10 years we've owned here, nobody ever sent anything to our physical address by mistake.

USPS carriers know the addresses on their routes and my educated guess is that most, if not all, mail of this type won't make it to the truck.

where i work i frequently try to send out 1099 misc forms in january. if there is no mailing address it comes back to me. so usually it will not get to you. if you need a physical address the mail boxes plus ( whatever its called ) can accept your mail for a charge
