Moving my dog to STJ

I have successfully secured a job and housing for my move August 1st! The next step is bringing my 8 pound dog down to the island with me. I have already set up a vet appointment to get his health card, he is up to date with his rabies shots, and I have booked him on the flight with me. Does anyone know the requirements once I arrive on STT and STJ? Do I have to register him or do anything further? Also, if I want to bring him back to the states, do I have to go through the same process each time I come back? Any helpful advice is appreciated! Thanks all!

It's probably a good idea to get a dog license, ID tag with local contact information and have pet microchipped, just in case he gets lost (or stolen) but that's pretty much it.

As for going back and forth, yep. Same procedure.
Veterinarian certificate, rabies vaccination, minimum 10 days prior to departure, etc. You need the information on veterinarian certificate to fill out the airline's travel documents for dog.

You're lucky your pup is small enough to fly in cabin with you.
It beats having to plan trips only with consideration of temperature and cargo restrictions.

Once your dog is through TSA security, they do require that you zip tie all 4 corners of kennel. Have leash handy as they normally require one to take pet out of kennel/carry bag to inspect it and dog.

Don't take any wet/canned dog food in your carry on. Dry only.

I just brought 2 dogs in via plane via Miami. They trotted right off the steps, into baggage claim and into my car and no one said a word. I had all the stuff, vaccinations etc. no one asked.

They are different for each airline - the carrier has to fit under the seat in front of you, and the pet has to be able to stand up and turn around in the carrier. If that isn't possible, then you have to fly her in cargo.

Please don't do what so many, many people do nowadays and get fake paperwork registering her as a service animal (if she isn't). People who have real service animals have a harder time because of those who abuse of the system.

Everyone I know that has brought their dogs down have never been questioned or inspected on arrival (I wasn't) but it's not worth being that one remote time it is checked. So do go through all the steps.

To my knowledge, there's no inspection on arrival because the inspection and all paperwork is done prior to your departure.

Here's the AA information on traveling with pet.
I couldn't find a weight restriction for carry on/ in cabin flight but it does have restrictions on size of kennel that dog must comfortably fit in.

Thanks everyone! I just want to make sure I do my due diligence. I don't want to risk having any problems bringing my pup with me.

Thanks everyone for your input, I also found some useful info at BringFido.com's website (I've been using them for pet-friendly hotel screening for years now)...apparently your dog's carrier is included in the 20 lb weight restriction so will probably have to find something made from fabric and collapsible plus your dog has to be able to stand up and turn around in the carrier, makes sense.

FYI JetBlue is the airline I'm using and it's $100 each way to fly your pup in the cabin.
