A few of you gave tips on preparing/maintaining accordian shutters, so I want to thank you for that very helpful tip!

I wasn't here when they were installed after Marilyn so I knew nothing about them. I may have had to close them by myself once and it was a struggle.

It was recommended on this forum that they be regularly oiled so I bought WD40 and the person who closed them today said it was very helpful.

We're now closed up tight for the night. Hoping everyone will be ok during and after the storm. Keep calm and shelter in place on!

One tip I used before I had shutters for my louvered glass windows:

Open the window and Remove the screen
remove the screw clips that hold the screen on
cut plastic drop cloth or even a big garbage bag large enough to cover the window
Put the plastic up and put the screw clips back in
cut the bottom of the plastic and put it OUT the bottom of the louvers
Put the screen back on and close the louvers

Now any water intrusion will run outside not inside.
I now have shutters everywhere but this saved me a lot of cleanup - the wind driven rain will come in the windows no matter how tight you think they are closed.

Stay Safe.

I think my few remaining small jalousie windows that don't have shutters yet are the next project to get done. They are all on the land-side gallery with large roof overhang so we'll see how they do.

Love that idea. luckily I have the ones with springs so I could wrap then snap probably with a regular garbage bag.

Always learning something.

Stay safe.
