So how do people that do not work for a company that provides health insurance afford medical care?

Thanks
Pam

We go into debt

If we have to. The cash price is usually much lower than the insurance price for the same service.

Some use plans like Healthcare International, where you have to pay up front but may be reimbursed for what you pay after deductible.

Self-insuring for the last decade has saved me thousands over what my insurance premiums would have been, had I been able to buy insurance. Of course, this is a big bet that not everyone wins.

Mostly, we stay in tune with our bodies and do all we can to stay healthy. We also don't go to the doctor for every little thing. Sometimes this turns out not to be a good idea.

Some of us travel overseas, where quality health and dental care can be had for a fraction of the US cost.

Interestingly, after I moved here, my stress level went down so much compared to stateside life that I no longer had the health issues I used to.

I've been told that giving a false name and SSN at the hospital works best.

I kissed the dirty tarmac almost every time I got back from Stateside for nearly 15 years. After six years of dealing with aging parents and getting kids and grandchildren established, weather in the Northeast of note lately, I will be kissing the dirty tarmac yet again next week.

Love the V.I. One simply needs to understand the jumbies involved and put the workarounds in place. It ain't for everyone.
