Doesn't count unless it came out your nose!
Seriously, though, it is really a bring your own significant other sort of scene. Slim pickings for most age groups.

Let's look at it this way, it doesn't matter how many singles, jobs, or available houses there are, we only need one of each. Sounds good in theory.
Maybe someone will start a mail order bride business from the mainland. A future mate living on a tropical island sounds appealing. I'd order a bride. Not because I like girls. The "wife" could handle the traditional duties of cooking and cleaning. That's worth free room and board.

Good lord, Jane - I DID spit my coffee out! That's the best one in a while....happy

Robert, don't know the age group you're looking at - probably 20-something - my son is 26, had worked lined up, apartment lined up, ready to roll.....we were living there, all was good.....he nixed the whole thing due to the lack of available females and lack of night life on STX. Considering that he spent a large portion of his visitation time wandering here and yon, I'll have to take his word for it - which is that most girls/women/whatever arrive on island with spouse or boyfriend in tow. The rest of them......well, I think there were maybe 3.....

Beer goggles. I'll have to tell him about that one. Lovin' it!

My honest opinion is -
Dating sucks anywhere in the VI. Its really weird. I am a 20 something female - wow its crazy.

So many guys - so little time (just kidding). I am picky - I like to be hit on because I am the prettiest girl at the bar - not the only girl at the bar. I don't go to a bar to pick up guys. I go to have a drink and have fun with friends. And I am sure the guys in my age group are not here for real relationships. They just want a little fun. Most of my friends who are in real relationships here - brought someone with them.

What is the saying - the odds are good - but the goods are odd?

St. Croix is even worse - I've really been in a bar with like literally 30 people - and been the only girl (excluding the bartender).

St. Thomas has the whole Spring Break crowd thing going on at Red Hook right now. I'm sure you could pick up a few tourists.

I'm going to start telling all of my lonely stateside girl friends to come down here.

But I do love the guys rating scale down here - "The Cruzan Curve"
A girl who would rate a 5 in the states - is an automatic 10 in the VI!

I just re read my post and decided to edit or add something -

Sorry for being so negative - There is hope here. Do a search - Keyword Valentine - There is a really cute thread there.

Jeez, sounds like one big suasage festival. Now, now most of the women I saw weren't 5's. Of course I wasn't in any of the singles bars, and I was in STT, and had my wife at the time in tow. Cute woman bartender at the parking lot bar in front of Havensight though.....

Robert Ray:

Interesting responses to your initial post so far!

The majority of people who relocate to the Virgin Islands have major problems and are trying to escape from mainland problems and melees which they can't deal with but assume that coming to to The Virgin Islands will not only solve their immediate problems but will give them a new start on iife.

How so NOT!

We have here a huge transient population, particularly where snowbirds are concerned.

I'm not being rude, but are you looking for a quickie or a job? Your chances of success here given that you're 49 years old I view rather sceptically. Cheers!

Hello Robert Ray,

I'll second the other replies. It is slim pickin's down here for 40 something guys. I've been here for a year and a half now and have been out on a total of 3 dates. The woman went back to her boyfriend. In my experience most of the continental women who are here came down with a significant other of some sort either married or a boyfriend. The West Indian women won't be interested in you. The 25 year old continental girls won't be interested either. So you might look into to becoming a priest... you'll already have the tough part down. Seriously, it is a tough place for a single guy of any age. I keep holding out hope that somehow... lightning will strike and I'll meet someone wonderful and available... and I keep buying a powerball ticket too.

On the flip side of things however... many of the women who come here with their husbands or boyfriends may eventually end that relationship and be available. Many of these leave the island if they can't find anyone interesting to date within the first year they are single. Others have sisters or friends on the mainland who they might eventually bring down to share life in the islands.

I know quite a few women in their 30's and 40's and a few in their 50's who are attractive and single. Some of them date quite a bit and others are still figuring out where to find a guy they find suitable. There are lots of guys who come to work at the refinery, but many are married and most won't be on-island more than a year on their contract, so these aren't the best dating pool prospects for a woman who wants to live here longer than that. Men who come here to live full time long-term would be preferred. It can be harder to connect with new people here since there are limited places where social interaction occurs and many people stick with their couple of favorite venues and never meet people who spend their time elsewhere. If you are having trouble finding someone to date, explore the island a bit further and don't let yourself get into a rut.
