Life on the North side of STT

April 02, 2007 02:16PM

I have visited the islands many times. I'm tiring of the corporate lifestyle and I'm not sure how much more of my Fortune 500 employer I can take. I've decided to save as much money as possible over the next six months and make my go/no go decision about moving in October.

I peruse the classifieds, island traders, newspapers, craigslist etc. I always find that there are more rentals for more varied costs available on the the north side. Why are there more places on the North side? How long would travel times be from the North side to Red Hook? I like the idea of living on the quieter side of the island with no cruise ship folks and no large hotels. Is is true that more mold grows on the North side?

I've lived on east end and on northside. I like northside better, but it depends on what your looking for.

It takes about 20 minutes to get to red hook normally.

Yes, we do get mold, but its not that bad. A little bleach mixed with water works wonders.

I have also lived on the North Side... My leather shoes turned green and developed fur, my good dress clothes grew moldy if I didn't wear them frequently. Some nights I would get into wet sheets. ALL of my clothes had the same mildewy smell unless worn within a week of them being washed. My books developed an "antique" look within a few months. But, the views are uncomparable, it's much cooler and quieter. I live on the East End now, it's a lot warmer but I don't have the mold problems. I like living on the East End because of all the stores, bank, post office etc.
