I received this in email today. How many people really fall for this? THIS IS A SCAM!

This is almost as bad as the scam where you give someone 10% of your earnings for your whole life and live your life as they tell you, on the promise that AFTER YOU DIE you will receive your reward. No matter that there is no proof whatsoever of an afterlife, if you don't believe, it is your fault for not having FAITH in nonsense. The same people probably fall for both scams.

OFFICE OF THE CHAIRMAN
CONTRACT AWARD &
PROCUREMENT COMMITTEE,
ECONOMIC COMMUNITY OF
WEST AFRICAN STATES (ECOWAS)
ANNEX, LOME REPUBLIC OF TOGO .
EMAIL: richardbrammell@yahoo.com.hk

"Strictly confidential"
ACCOUNT PROVISION FOR USD 16 MILLION.

Attn,

Forgive my indignation if this message comes to you as a surprise and if it might offend you without your prior consent and writing through this channel.

I am Richard Brammell, The Chairman, Contract Awarding committee of the ECONOMIC COMMUNITY OF WEST AFRICAN STATES (ECOWAS) with Headquarters in Lome , Togo .

I got your contact through Network on line in my search for a reliable and reputable person to handle a very confidential transaction that involves a transfer of fund to a foreign account and I decided to write you.

After discussing my view and your profile with my colleagues, they were very much satisfied and decided to contact you immediately for this mutual business relationship. We wish to transfer the sum of USD16m (Sixteen Million United States Dollars only.)into your personal or company's bank account.

This fund was a residue of the over invoiced contract bills awarded by us for the supply of hard/softwares,pharmaceuticals/medical items, light and heavy duty vehicles, apparels and other administrative logistics etc for the ECOMOG in Sierra-Leone and Liberia during the Peace Keeping Projects.

This DEAL was deliberately hatched out and carefully protected with all the attendant lope holes sealed off. As the Chairman of CAC,I have the cooperation and mandate of the Financial Director and the Secretary of the Organization. We arranged and over invoiced the contract funds supplied by different companies from different countries during the crisis.

It was our consensus to seek the assistance of a willing foreigner to provide us with the facilities to transfer this money out of West Africa . This is borne out of our belief in the non-stable and spurious political nature of this sub-region.

The original contractors have been duly paid by the Banque Centrale Des Etats De L`Afrique De L`Ouest (Central Bank of the West African States)through our bankers-INTERNATIONAL BANK OF AFRICA(IBA)UNION TOGOLAISE DE BANQUE(UTB),ECO BANK,BTCI BANK LOME TOGO .

This balance is suspended in the escrow accounts awaiting claims by any foreign company of our choice. We intend to pay out this fund now as the organization is winding up its activities since the aim of returning PEACE to the countries and the coast has been achieved.

Based on the laws and ethics of employment, we as civil servants working under this organization, are not allowed to operate a foreign account.

This is the more reason why we needed your assistance to provide an account that can sustain this fund for safe keeping and our future investment with your comprehensive advice, assistance and partnership in your country.

It is however agreed, as the account owner in this deal to allow you 40% of the entire sum as compensation, 60% will be held on trust for me.

This transaction will be successfully concluded within 14 days if you accord us your unalloyed and due cooperation. You should provide the followings;

YOUR COMPANY`S NAME WITH COMPLETE ADDRESS,
TELEPHONE AND FAX NUMBERS.(if available)
THE NAME OF YOUR BANK, ITS ADDRESS WITH TEL, FAX AND YOUR
ACCOUNT NUMBER, THE COMPLETE MAILING ADDRESS OF THE BENEFICIARY WITH TELEPHONE AND FAX NUMBERS.

Upon the receipt of this information's will forward them to the organization for ratification and subsequent payment.

As with the case of all organized (sensitive) and conspired DEALS, we solicit for your unreserved confidentiality and utmost secret in this business. We hope to retire peacefully and leave a honorable business life afterwards. There are no risks involved.

You can reach me through my private phone +228 97 06 25 31 for more details.

Thanks while i look forward to your positive reply. Please reply back to me on my private email id if you are interested richardbrammell@yahoo.com.hk Or RichardBrammell@aol.com
With regards.
Mr Richard Brammell

Hey Rotor
There are still a lot of smart people who get fooled or make bad decisions. Can you imagine an atheist who still supports Republican political thought?

Here's a warning I received last week:

"Please be aware, and I ask that you make others aware, that there is a Nigerian money scheme being attempted upon VI attorneys.
One person pretends to be a buyer of real property, sight unseen, and he/she has never been seen by the Realtor through whom they are contracting. They then call the attorney, tell them they will put their financial consultant in touch with that attorney to wire the funds to said attorneys escrow. Instead, the financial consultant plays dumb, mails a counterfeit check for a much greater amount than necessary for the deposit, from an internationally located lender. When deposited, the attorney's escrow may be credited prior to the check arriving at the clearing house and receiving a disapproval, at which point the funds will be withdrawn from the attorney's escrow account. In the interim, from when the bank credits the account to when the check is disapproved, the fraudulent client attempts to get the attorney to send them back a chunk of the over funding. The attorney would then realize he'd been shorted when the deposit is declined AFTER he's sent the funds to the supposed client. One of our affiliates has had this attempted on them twice now. The buyer usually claims to come from China or Europe, again, acting sight unseen, and claiming a phone number with a +44 phone number."

Sometimes it is hard to tell who is who, especially if you are in a business situation.
I learned that if i replied to requests for purchase of properties from a buyer (especially Africa/Nigeria) and I asked for copies of passport for the individual and/or named associates I would have to deal with for proof of identity to be sent to an attorney I would be working with, there would be no response back to my e-mail.

There's another type scam for employment for being a secret shopper.
Beware!

Certainly not for their religious views. But then the Democrats have moved so far to the left that they are becoming socialists.

I am a Libertarian. It is a hard choice, do you vote for the Mormon or the Black Liberation Theologist? They both claim to be some form of christian.

Putting religion aside, do you vote for someone who has successfully run a business and been governor of a state. Or do you vote for someone who was a university law professor, a half term US Senator and 4 years as an unsuccessful president. Are you better off today than you were 4 years ago?

I am glad that I don't have to make the choice. America is in real trouble.

As a Libertarian, More Freedom, Less Government. I would probably vote for the capitalist.
We need more private sector jobs, not more government jobs.

I tend to support Romney more for the economy and Obama more for some social issues. In this election it would definitely be voting for the lesser of two evils.

At least I can prove that Obama and Romney exist. So either way I am not believing in mythology.

Thanks Rotor
I threw that snarky comment out because I had a difficult time reconciling my impression of you.. a smart man who agrees with me about religious thought but is willing to accept the the mindless Fox inspired dogma of the right wing Republicans.. You have explained why you are able to accept the dichotomy. I still do not agree.

I am temporarily living in the states, so I actually can vote for my choice as President of the USA. I would rather be in St Croix to vote against the ...oh well you name it.

The truth is that I do not vote for the "MAN"...I vote for the party. That is why I vote for Democrats... I actually like Barry Obama, and also liked John Kerry and Al Gore, even John McCain. Going back to 1964, I liked Barry Goldwater too. BUT.. I found over the past 40 years that the Republican party economic thought would NOT work for every day people. I have been" trickled down" upon far too often.. I think that all of us and our government have a responsibility to support the medical, food and housing needs of even the less of us. Even if we do not like or approve of "them".

President Obama...(the Democratic party) offers the best choice for the survival of the American lower and middle class. He also offers the best chance for places like the USVI to get help and support. The Republicans, who invoke their christian god at every opportunity, will not help us ever... So that is why I will support Democratic candidates in the states. How about you?

Well, if anybody think there is much difference in these two, that Obama is a socialist or the Romney a good business man, they certainly are gullible.

I'm a bit surprised that you haven't seen this sort of thing before. About two a month appear in my "suspect email" folder and have been doing so for the last several years while the general media regularly reports on similar scams. big grin

I'm somewhere between Johnson and Stein, who I really like. Strange for me.

I'm a registered republican, use to like Paul a lot, but I've lost my faith in peoples ability to care for themselves and education, infrastructure and dietary habits need to be fixed.

I would never in a million years chose to vote for a party, instead of educating myself on an individuals background and platform. That is also very gullible. I can't believe you two just admitted to that. Glad you did, because I would probably say some pretty insulting things.

I do remember you held libertarian beliefs. I tried it out and even voted for a Libertarian during the 1976 election. After that they got way too extreme, being overrun by the Posse Comitatus and other hate groups. They do look more mainstream today. I went to their web site and refreshed my memory regarding their positions. I still find them too extreme and impractical in the real world. Especially when it comes to sharing our wealth with those less able. I do think government has a place in trying to level the playing field. The only other option is the church and you know how I feel about organized religion.

I guess I could be called a benevolent socialist. The organized socialists are also too extreme for me. So how about this..I am a disorganized atheist socialist leaning towards the Democratic party platform.

I am a "the government is not your mother" Libertarian. I do not think that the governments job is wealth transfer. If we want to help people then create JOBS, not welfare.

How about a great democrat created program like CCC. We have plenty of infrastructure projects that need doing.

Recipients of assistance should be drug tested. Many jobs in this country require it why not welfare recipients. If you are getting SNAP or WIC then no more children until you become self sufficient. We don't need more people on welfare we need more people paying taxes.

Stop waiting for someone to "give you a job". Find a niche and fill it, create you own job. It is not the governments job to make sure you get an education, it is your job to take advantage of education opportunities that exist.

That is the American way that I learned about in school.

Once we start down the path of the government owes me:
Food
Housing
Healthcare

whats next?
Car?
Internet?
Telephone?
Television?
Cable?

The government is not your mother. Nothing is free! In order for the government to supply "free" stuff they have to "take" it from someone else. People should get to keep what they earn. The government should not be able to decide that one group is too rich and another group is too poor and transfer wealth from one group to the other. Maybe the rich group worked harder, maybe the rich group took more risk to become rich. Someone else should not benefit from their efforts through government extortion.

Obama wants to balance the budget by making the "rich" pay a little more. Unfortunately most economists say that there are not enough of the rich to do this. Obama will have to make the "rich" pay a LOT more to balance the budget. How is this fair. This is not a closed system. The rich did not take something away from someone else to make their money. When Bill Gates started Microsoft he did not take money away from someone else, he started a whole new industry. Many people benefited from this. Why should he be forced to subsidize someone who decided not to go to college and instead get an assembly line job. We all make decisions in our lives, people who make good ones are not responsible for people who make bad decisions.

If you are going to raise the taxes on only the rich, then the rich are the only ones who should get to vote on it. If the rich do something illegal then let them pay but if they play by the rules and do a better job why should they be penalized?

"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." - Ben Franklin

Already been tried and shot down. Something to do with the 4th amendment...

And yes, getting hired for a job is not the same as receiving welfare.

Too bad. And very unfair.

"Drug testing, legally required for many public employers, has become widespread in the private sector over the past two decades. A 2006 survey by the Society for Human Resource Management found that 84 percent of employers required new hires to pass drug screenings, and 39 percent randomly tested employees after they were hired. In addition, 73 percent tested workers when drug use was suspected and 58 percent required testing after accidents on the job."

So if you work for your money you can be tested but if you get government assistance you cannot? Doesn't sound very fair to me.

I know the Daily KOS is a liberal web site, but I think this article pretty much encompasses why the private industry and the public government are different:

Drug testing those on welfare: still unconstitutional and a waste of money

Interesting article which begs as many questions as it answers. They say that of the welfare applicants tested only 2.5% tested positive and 2% refused to be tested. I wonder how many just didn't apply because they knew that they would be tested.

The basis for not testing them is the 4th amendment, unreasonable search. I wonder how many commercial truck drivers, pilots, air traffic controllers, railroad workers, etc also consider it an unreasonable search yet still continue to be required to be tested? I wonder what percentage of these workers test positive for drugs? If they refuse to be tested they are denied their jobs.

well, new theory, there is a direct correlation between the hole in the ozone layer and the increase of the number of Rastafarian's.

In another matter, if you take out the references to Mohamed the Quaran description of the creation of the earth/World is remarkably similar to the big band theory
