I think waiting for the ACA to implode on its own is the best move anyway. Then not even Pelosi will be able to defend it.

The little I knew of it, I wasn't a fan. I'd rather wait and hope for something better that the federal government doesn't subsidize. We are not a socialist country.

This always makes lol...
1. Interstate System
2. Prisons
3. Schools
4. Libraries
5. Etc
Etc
Etc

Health care costs will only go down when greedy, for profit, insurers are out of the game. We spend more for less BECAUSE we do not have single payer.

Wrong as usual

The fallacies in the first are too easy

Healthcare costs won't go down until
People are forced to carry the freight for their healthcare decision (like smokers)
We stop subsidizing pharm for the rest of the world
We don't expect an MRI for a hang nail

Having a boogeyman is much easier than critical thought and analysis

First off insurance companies do charge higher premiums for smokers.
I agree with the pharm part
Asking for an MRI and getting one is completely different. My dad was told he just had a kidney stones for well over a year until he finally got an MRI which showed a baseball sized tumor on his kidney which had already spread to his bones and lungs.

This situation seems to be very common. The last two of my friends that have passed from this terrible disease encountered the same treatment. When it was diagnosed they were told. "if only we had found this earlier" Both had been going to the doctors and spending thousands for well over a year. Then finally an MRI was done. I am very saddened to hear about your Dad.

thanks for agreeing with me on smokers

Sorry to hear about your dad, it sounds like he's received piss poor medical service. I'm not big on lawsuits and don't know the particulars but it seems that his Doctor was negligent

Listen, I'm not blaming the doctors. A tumor that size had been there long before he had symptoms. Knowing a year earlier may have given him a better chance for more time, but who knows. He had 4 months from MRI to his passing. I am; however, mad at our government for refusing to acknowledge the multiple times my dad was sprayed with Agent Orange in Vietnam had any causal properties for his renal cancer. That is a fight we will keep at.

That is a whole different subject of government lies. He should have never been there to be exposed to it. Vietnam was never going to be a threat to the U.S.
In the end it caused much suffering and things turned out the same anyway.

Sorry about your Dad, sparty.

I don't understand about the lack of having an MRI.
All a doctor has to do is request one.
I've had one. Didn't have any healthcare insurance so I paid out of pocket and in STT the cost was about $900-1000. I did get a discount as I was uninsured.

I now, finally, have health insurance, thanks to ACA!
I'm very happy with the cost and to have it.
Dental insurance, too.

The republicans have been trying to repeal it for 7 years.
You'd have thought that they could've come up with a much better plan than the disastrous piece of crap they tried to foist upon us. While ACA isn't perfect, it's a good template to build on and make better instead of repealing all together and leaving millions hanging without the ability to afford any insurance, at all.

Isn't this the wrong thread for healthcare discussion?

Seems if republicans were able to come up with a plan they would have done so before ACA.

Actually, the SS Act bill itself describes it as an entitlement, and by definition, it is. Just another perfectly good word conservatives hijacked and redefined as a negative talking point.

I don't see negativity, just accuracy.

Nothing can be gotten for free with out theft. Entitlement is a big word for theft. (at least, as long as we aren't communists / socialists i guess).

I'm all for benefits (do something, get something) not a big fan of entitlements (do nothing, get something).

leave even all those "Live Free 'or Die" people to die in the street.

Funny how those type of people are rarely found "in the street"...

I wonder what percentage of "homeless" are willingly so?

I know of at least 2 here on STX that live that way by choice.

I'm very sorry you don't have access to a dictionary, nor a rudimentary grasp of etymology.

We don't find many croaking in the street BECAUSE we still have some compassionate people and still have Federal laws tying Federal benefits to emergency care. As for relating my freedom uber alles comment to homelessness, you really need to reign in your moving the goalposts fallacy usage.

Yes, an entitlement you receive after signing a contract for service

ENTITLEMENT = GET SOMETHING FOR DOING NOTHING

Now I'm confused.confused smiley Normally I deal with basic math. If A = B and B = C then A = C.

So "signing a contract for service" = "GET SOMETHING FOR DOING NOTHING"?

Not math per se, but simple logic. And I agree it fails miserably.

The problem lies with the Insurance Companies and the Pharmaceutical Corporations. This is not the fault of Obamacare, which stopped the most egregious problems with insurance companies. Remember lifetime caps? Remember denials for pre-existing conditions? Remember the retroactive cancellation of insurance policies? Returning to that is not an option.

No

The problem is a lack of understanding of simple economics and subsituting it for feelings.

Like the simple economics where we, as Americans, pay far more per capita for health insurance than the vast majority of the word and do not receive health care even better? Simple. Economics.

Yes when you account for

Lifestyle choices
Ability to get instant tests Vs extended waiting times
End of life expenditures
Pharm costs
Etc

You really believe that you can receive better healthcare outside of the U.S.?

I guess feelings are easier

Etymology, yes... lets go back to when the military pay system was crafted and look at contractual law terms and figure out what was used eh?

for example:
Originally, the term "entitlement" in the United States was used to identify federal programs that, like Social Security and Medicare, got the name because workers became "entitled" to their benefits by paying into the system.

excited

Come on dear readers... linguistic drift is a real thing, and the military is one of the oldest organizations out there...I already tried to break it down for you.. how much further do we need to go here?

I'll clap my hands along with the syllables if needed wink

Quite.

I guess this is what's called draining the swamp.

It would just be too comical if it wasn't so sad.

The historians will be busy for a long time.

It was probably going to anyway, but when Trump's executive orders did away with the individual and employer mandates and told the IRS not to enforce any penalties for not having insurance it was assured.

I think Trump is the President this country has needed for quite some time.
I'm happy with the progress he is making.
The news media for the most part is pathetic, but entertaining. Much like Schumer big grin
