did you know that Democrats are very generous with other peoples money while republicans are very generous with their own.

talk about selfish?

One word: Tithing. Particularly in Utah to the Mormon enterprise.

If you're interested in philanthropy, I suggest also reading the Chronical of Philanthropy for giving data from which you might draw your own conclusions. Not red, not blue.

isn't that you, though?

Isn't it even MORE virtue signaling to say you support stealing from other people "because we have to help the unfortunates" and "I'm ok with it because of the unfortunates",, "I don't have any problem being stolen from (for the unfortunates) why do you?"

VIRTUE!!!!!!!!! (hahaha)

I see CRAZY virtue signaling from you, especially on this topic. And the funiest part about it is this: it takes zero effort for people to give the government money and think they are doing good... it takes REAL effort to go out and help your self....

"liberal democrats" generally have a level of cognitive dissonance that allows this contradictory behavior, or not only allows it, encourages them to revel in it.

You see just because some of us don't list off what we do for charity doesn't mean we aren't doing it.... your statement is hilarious because your so un-selfaware.. your complaining about people doing what you your self are doing!

You mistake correlation for causation. Being a republican does not cause a person to be more generous. But residents of states such as Utah (Mormon) or Mississippi (southern Baptist) with strong religious unity tend to culturally value philanthropic giving and conservative politics - thus correlation.

I have worked in and around philanthropy for many years and have never seen political affiliation as a reason for someone to give generously or to not. The psychology of charitable giving is far more personal and complicated than that simplistic explanation proposed in the POV article you referenced. Nor does it have anything to do with selfish or unselfish behavior. Some charitable giving can be quite personally and socially beneficial.

Hmmm. I prefer to read articles relying on more comprehensive data from places like UPenn and MIT.

Washington Post

UPenn

Plus, I'd be curious to see what percentage of church donations go to maintaining the church vs charitable endeavors.

well we already know how wasteful the government programs are, I doubt the churches are more wasteful... they don't function on a budget that goes DOWN if you don't spend everything that you had the year before.

the US is one of the more conservative / libertarian countries, and the most charitable..

if you want a "right / left" comparison, that's a pretty good one.

and that's just correlation, no causation supposed there.

so those who virtue signal the most, help in reality the least... again.

I'd guess it's because all their energy is spent up on virtue signalling.

I don't think I will be getting a lesson on virtue or compassion from someone who thinks vaccines are harmful.

logical fallacy: Ad Hominem (to the man)

or in other words, attack the messenger, ignore the message.

typical average American debate tactic.

I have attacked the message pretty consistently. When people start talking compassion and virtue and deny the efficacy of vaccines thus leading to uncompassionate suffering, I Ad Hom the heck out of it

That's another logical fallacy called "Straw man", basically it's what you do when the argument isn't going your way, you change the argument to something you think you CAN win on.

We have learned to communicate via logical fallacy and often fall back on it instinctively.

Anyone ever have a critical thinking class in public school? Maybe we should have.

Vaccines are compassion. Red piller types "know" of vaccines are bad. They aren't. They lack compassion and the ability to understand science

Yes, it's far better to have your daughter exposed to a virus that causes life-threatening cancer than to vaccinate and have an conversation with her about sexually transmitted diseases.

I don't have much faith in my Spartans this year. Too young. As for the vaccine thing Liquid Flouride has been a conspiracy theorist in regards to them. I wasn't calling you out Speedy. Sorry for confusion. Untoward and collective evolution are great websites to go to for fake news though. Gardisil has reduced uteran cancers. I will give it to my son.
