Moving to St. Croix

My husband and I are planning to visit St. Croix in October 2017 for a lengthy stay. We are considering retiring there but want to support the community also. We would like a long term rental but understand there are different regions that should be considered. I would appreciate any info around what to consider in each region, monthly costs for renting a 2 bed/2 bath home, info about the safest area in case of hurricanes. I am a teacher and my husband worked in the field of mental health for children.
Thanks
Sharon
