Is anyone planning to go to watch this? May I assume that there ARE spectators? smiling
If so, where are the best spots to be? What about parking?

Will the North Shore Road be blocked off for this? I can't imagine they'd want bikes and cars sharing the road (the roads along there are dangerous enough as it is, with all the winding twists and turns).

I'm not sure that I'll be attending, but this sure looks like an exciting event to see!

Here's a portion of the article about it that I clipped from The St. Croix Source awhile back:

Starts at 7 AM;
The triathlon starts at Cane Bay with the half-mile swim.
A 15-mile bike ride along the North Shore Road is the second leg. It runs past Gentle Winds to the turnaround at the bottom of Scenic Road, then west past Cane Bay to the Carambola Beach Resort guard shack, where the bicyclists turn around to return to Cane Bay.
The final portion, a three-mile run, heads east to La Vallee.
Awards will be given to the top overall male and female winners as well as to the top finishers in each age group.
The Toyota triathlon is part of the fall series of events that begins Sept. 3 with the Love City Triathlon on St. John, which is followed by the Coral Reef Swim Oct. 22 at the Buccaneer Hotel and the Caribbean Classic Triathlon on Nov. 14. Both events are on St. Croix.

Lots of people come to watch it. I am a participant and believe it or not they do NOT close the roads! It makes the bike course a little scary. Most people parked at Cane Bay Dive shop last year but it might be best to go up the road a little bit (where Off the Wall used to be) and walk to Cane Bay. That's the transition area so it's the best place to stand to see the most. Hope that helps smiling

I'm shocked that they leave the road open to automobile traffic. Cars certainly wouldn't be able to safely pass the cyclists in the opposing lane (to get around from behind). That's very scary.

Is the former "Off the Wall" located east of Cane Bay Dive Shop? I'm new to the island and have only been to Cane Bay a couple of times.

My assumption is that once we're parked and in "viewing mode" that we'd stay in the area until the activities are over. I can't tell from the description of the running portion where the participants will be running from/to/on. I wouldn't want to get caught up in foot traffic if we were to leave the Cane Bay area for the finish line. Do you know the details on this?

And how long does the event normally last? (Should we pack a picnic lunch and appropriate cold beverages? smiling )

Thank you for the info and best of luck in the triathlon! (You're very brave!!)

Yeah the former Off the Wall is just east of the Cane Bay Dive Shop. The race itself is only about 2 hours (for EVERYONE to finish), there may be a few stragglers but that's about it. There are some post race activities that are fun also. Right by the Spratnet bar (the little shack one on the beach) is where the start/finish/transition area is. The run is different this year and heads east on North Shore road and is out and back and will finish at the Full Moon Beach bar area. It's not a bad idea to bring some lunch and/or drinks because it'll be a fun day if you want to stick around. If you're looking to get out, traffic isn't bad about a half hour after the finish.

Maybe I'll see you there!

At this point, I'm planning to attend. (I usually get up at 5:00 AM so the start time is not a problem here... smiling)

So will you be wearing a number or some other identifier so I can watch for you? Or is it a situation where you won't know your number until that morning? And... ummm... are you male or female? (That might help too!)

Thanks for all the great info. This sounds like a "must see" event!!!

Hope to see you there!
