We belong to a medieval re-enactment group in the PNW and will be moving to STX in the next couple of months. Does anyone know if there are any re-enactment groups on island? I'm not particular about period, just love the interaction and fantasy of it.

Renies! Yeah! Not found anything down here since I've been here. It would be great to start - I'd be interested. I was an annual regular at the fest in Holly, MI.

Starting one would work for us. Possibly we could do age of exploration, that might be more appropriate for the area. I will definitely try to keep in touch with you, especially when we know exactly when we are leaving. Thanks for the response.

You might want to contact us at Paradise Radio (340) 773-5935. In December, we'll be sponsoring a Christmas event called the "First Annual Paradise Christmas Faire and Guavaberry Competition". We'd love to start a trend along the lines of the Dickens Christmas Faire in San Francisco. If you're interested in working on the event, give me a call.

We (texans) have one in Galveston called Dickens on the Strand and I do love it, lots of fun. But do you think that will go over well with the local culture? It just doesnt seem like novels based mostly in london will have alot to do with the islands. But then again neither does st patties and that is a hoot here. Just a thought.

Ah, but St Patties involves squirt guns, beer, swimsuits, beer, beads and more beer!!!! I suppose one could have a drunken Dickens Xmas!

My family will move to stx this summer (also from the PNW), as soon as my wife graduates from the university. We are pirate re-enactors and that's part of the eason for re-locating in the Caribbean. And pirates involve swaggering and rum-swilling and all manner of bad behavior, so I'm hoping that'll fit in all right. I know the Caymans have a big pirate festival. Anything similar in the VI?

Mamelon – where are you from in the PNW? We're in the Willamette Valley where it's currently 42 degrees, compared to 81 on stx right now.

The only things that I can think of in the usvi that require costumes is Carnival and Halloween.

Hello John,

Pirates... Don't know of anything for St. Croix. On St. Thomas the Bluebeards Castle has pirate statues and some of their tours involve pirate stories, not sure if the guides dress the part ever. If you want to learn more their site is [www.blackbeardscastle.com]. And there is a daily charter boat that has a pirate theme, its called Doubloon [www.doubloon.com]. One of the Carnival troops did a pirate theme a couple years back, but the themes change each year. Currently no pirate festivals.

Well, maybe we'll see if we can do something about that. If nothing else, my wife and I are ordained through the Universal Life Church and she's very keen on offering pirate-themed weddings. Crazier things have happened. In my life, this year.

And, trust me, John, crazier things have happened and continue to happen in the VI! A bit off topic but I remember when someone came here years ago and started up a horse-drawn carriage operation on STT. They got all their licenses in order and got a lot of local publicity but it was just a few months later that they went down like a zinc cupcake. The last straw, as I recall was when poor mellow Dobbin who apparently was a veteran carriage-hauler freaked out over something...ah, life in the islands!

Pistarkle Theatre on St. Thomas is doing their 1st Annual Shakespeare Festival on May 4th from 2-5pm followed by the Renaissance Faire in Tillet Gardens from 5-8pm. I think the Shakespeare Festival may be part of the Theatre's student group but not sure, also don't know what exactly they have planned. For more information contact Pistarkle Theatre at (340)775-7877.
