Re: Shipping Car from STX back to FL - 13 years ago
Anyone ever ship a car back to the states? Perhaps get a shipping estimate from Lee at Managed Freight and ask if they know the procedure/fees involved once the car arrives in Florida... I tried Florida relocation sites and didn't find anything. --Islanderby Islander - General/Relocating

Re: Canadians - 13 years ago
Hello Benjamin, If an employer can get someone on island or an American willing to move from the states they aren't going to go through the trouble of sponsoring a foreign national unless they are in an occupation that is specialized for a job difficult to fill. They are more likly to say no thanks and a few might say here I'll pay you under the table - so you'd be illegal. Being illegal couldby Islander - General/Relocating
Re: The Best Source for VI Jobs? - 13 years ago
Hello BW, The minimum wage is $5.15. Restaurant employees like waiters can be paid $2.35... $3 an hour as long as their tips bring their hourly to $5.15. Should their tip not bridge the gap the employer is responsible for doing so. Basically waiters/bartenders usually make their money on tips. $10/hour is ok. You can find a job making 20k with your background. There are banks here, theyby Islander - General/Relocating
Re: Schools in STT - 13 years ago
Hello Lynne, I think the public elementary schools are ok as far as teachers, classes, socialization. Its the junior high schools that are intimidating; peer pressure becomes a bigger issue. There are only two public junior high schools on St. Thomas so there are a lot of students with varying backgrounds from gangster to those that really want to learn, go to college and do something positiveby Islander - General/Relocating

Re: Teaching/Living in USVI - 13 years ago
Hello Jen, Others (non teachers) can answer questions 1 and 3 for you. What island are you going to? Do you know which school? If not is it private or public and is it elementary, Junior or High School; we can somewhat narrow it down and know the area the school and better answer your questions. --Islanderby Islander - General/Relocating

Re: government - 13 years ago
Hello Debby, The corruption is along the lines of mis-managed money, missing money, nepotism & hiring unqualified people, rude/unprofessional employees, red tape, inffiencieny galore, poor management, lack of basic supplies, unpaid vendors, big $$ projects without adequate explanation of who is getting how much and for exactly what services... just to name a few. --Islanderby Islander - General/Relocating
