Re: OfficeMax - 11 years ago
Yes, you obviously must be old and grumpy. Office Max hired Eric because he has no baggage, no wife and kids to come home to after a very long day and has to listen to them bemoan their feelings that this is not paradise and they want to move back home. He's young and out to do whatever he has to do to prove himself. They hired him based on his intelligence and enthusiasm. Just like the Armby thoogie - General/Relocating
Re: safety - 12 years ago
I also hate the tabloid, "flavor of the week", journalism that the only purpose is to sell papers. BUT at the same time, the news coverage makes other beachgoers aware, hopefully puts the heavy on the VIPD, and hopefully the two school-skipping delinquints will read a paper and realize the police are looking for them. Unfortunately, crime follows the path of least resistance and tby thoogie - General/Relocating

Travelwoman, In response to your comments, let me plead guilty to ignorance by reason of stupid tourist. Below are a few examples from which my comments were based: At the Danish Manor interior Romex wire was nailed to an outdoor tree to a working light fixture. Code and saftey violations. Re: Cotton Valley-STX/ exposed rebar? - 12 years ago
As a frequent visitor to STX and also a licensed builder in Michigan, I'm amazed at some of the things I see in STX. I'm well aware of "Island Time" and "Island Mentality" so things may be different in the USVI, but in Michigan you need a Certificate of Occupancy to live in a house. They will not grant you one if your house is "under construction". Obviously ifby thoogie - General/Relocating
Re: Wireless Hotspots? - 12 years ago
Unless you're on a working vacation and need the internet, the best wireless spots are the beach, the hotel pool, the bar, and any other spot that laptops shouldn't be. STX doesn't even have Direct TV let alone a common clock. A good week is defined as your cable, phone, and power never going out. People live and visit STX to detox and rehab themselves from today's world of "need to kby thoogie - General/Relocating
Re: place to stay/work St. Croix - 12 years ago
I live in Royal Oak and am also in construction and I have been to STX 10 times in the past 7 years. My business partner lives in Grand Blanc. I think I can give you your answers from a fellow Michigander's perspective. If I was 30 I'd move in a second, but I'm 40, married, in-laws, etc., and have spent 15 years building my business. My risk/reward ratio is too great to pull the trigger.by thoogie - General/Relocating
STX Films and "DINOSAURUS!" - 12 years ago
Has anybody else ever seen the movie "DINOSAURUS!"? It's a B-movie made in 1960 and filmed in color in STX. The plot involves two dinosaurs and a caveman unearthed while building a dock and then brought to life to wreck havoc on the island. It could have been made today judging by the subplots. They include waiting for the dock to be built so the big ships will come, locals workiby thoogie - General/Relocating
Digital Photo Printing on STX - 12 years ago
Are there any places on STX such as K-Mart in Sunny Isle that have self-service digital photo printing where you can pop in your memory card and make your own selections? I want to make my own personalized postcards when I'm down there. Putting a big adhesive label on the back makes it easier to write on too. Tedby thoogie - General/Relocating
