Re: Anyone have a large dog crate to sell/loan? - 1 year ago
Thanks guys. Ollie (the dog) is actually a service dog in training to help people at disaster sites, hospitals and retirement centers. He is riding at our feet for the flight to learn how to help people with their fear of flying.by violincora - General/Relocating
Anyone have a large dog crate to sell/loan? - 1 year ago
Does anyone have a large dog crate on St John they aren't using and want to sell? Or let us borrow for a few weeks? We will be on island Aug 10th and want a crate for our dog while we are at the beach for a couple hours here and there while he get adjusted (i.e. not destroy the house!). But only in the beginning, then he'll be fine in the house alone (once he knows it's his house!) A new one rby violincora - General/Relocating
Re: Boat ownership? - 1 year ago
LOL, thanks for all of the help! We are just moving down there for a year, so we would buy a small boat to putt around in, and then sell it when we leave. Not sure where we would moor it. Still have to look into that. We are both "on the water" people from the Puget Sound (though we have never owned one), so I doubt we would get bored! Thanks for all the advice! New musician to the island - 1 year ago
I have been posting here for a few weeks trying to get my bearings, and I forgot to tell you all, if you need a violinist, I'm your gal! I have been teaching violin and playing weddings in the Seattle area for almost 20 years (wow that makes me sound OLD). I just posted this in the classified section as well, and didn't know where it should go.... I just made a website, and have been blogginby violincora - Community

Boat ownership? - 1 year ago
When we move there in a couple weeks, my husband and I are thinking about buying a small boat to putt around in. I searched online a bit without much luck, but we were wondering what certification/licencing is required? Boat school? Mooring? I'm thinking it's all easier said than done, right?by violincora - General/Relocating
Re: Tae Kwon Do and other kids classes - 1 year ago
I know for sure there will be new Tae Kwon Do classes offered at the St John School of the Arts starting in Sept (since I just got hired to teach violin there myself, I'm in on the staff emails). Let me know if I can help point you that direction....by violincora - General/Relocating
Re: Moving in Oct - 1 year ago
I have to comment, becasue we are from WA state (Federal Way) and are moving to St John in just two weeks! We must keep in touch! We thought about driving to Miami and shipping our car. The quote was $1400 I want to say? We were pretty excited to drive x-country for the first time! But in the end we decided the car is too old, and all the hotel rooms would add up on the drive, too. Plus, if oby violincora - General/Relocating
Re: STT/STJ Car Ferry Rush Hour? - 1 year ago
I can't thank you all enough! What a hot mess, huh? Hopefully they figure it out soon. It can't be easy on the contractors, sewer, and garbage people I'm assuming?by violincora - General/Relocating
Dog Walker/Sitter St John? - 1 year ago
We are moving there in a few weeks and we are looking for a local to take our (SUPER well behaved people/loving 35-lb) lab/Aussie-mix Ollie for a few hours now and then. We would love to spend our first week there like a "vacation" and not have to leave him home alone in a strange new house while we beach-hop. I looked on Craigslist and the web in general and I can't find anything. Anyby violincora - General/Relocating

STT/STJ Car Ferry Rush Hour? - 2 years ago
We are moving there Aug 10th, and I was wondering if there is a time of day to AVOID catching the ferry from St Thomas to St John? I know they are short ferries right now and we want to avoid a super long wait after a grueling flight from the west coast with a dog in tow. Is there a rush hour? Our flight lands at 1:00pm and after stopping to buy dog food, we should make it to Red Hook in our rby violincora - General/Relocating
