Re: STX Mini-PMV Report - 10 years ago
Great report. And it matches our conclusions for those items we experienced on our visits. The signage problem is typical in most of the islands we've been to. We've made several wrong turns that took us way out of our way. Mostly, it's been good because we get to see places we hadn't planned on. Hard to get from Point A to Point B if you take the tourist maps literally., too. After our secoby watruw8ing4 - General/Relocating
Re: Non-Resident Car Ownership in STX - 10 years ago
Thanks for the quick response! I was hoping we could do that. Looks like car hunting will be part of our next trip. (One of my favorite activities - NOT!!!)by watruw8ing4 - General/Relocating
Non-Resident Car Ownership in STX - 10 years ago
I searched and couldn't find any posts with our particular situation. I also couldn't get a definitive answer from the Settler's Handbook, or various web sites - including this one. We are tired of the hassles and expense of short-term car rentals when we come to St Croix. I can't seem to get a definite answer to the question: Is it possible for us to buy and register a car in St Croix if we areby watruw8ing4 - General/Relocating
Re: Calling all Google Earth nerds! (like me) - 10 years ago
I have a Google Earth picture of my STX place on my desk at work in PA. Whenever I get frustrated, I take a moment, stare at the picture and repeat my mantra: "Sooooon, sooooon, sooooon". Gets me through the day. and makes our future move seem more real.by watruw8ing4 - General/Relocating
Re: insurance - 10 years ago
HI Terry - We bought a little place in April and we haven't been back since and won't get there again til October. We do not rent it out. We got insurance through AARP in Puerto Rico very easily -but not cheaply. They were the best deal we could find. Our neighbors check in for us periodically and we have someone hired to shutter it up in case of hurricane. I think there was a question on the iby watruw8ing4 - General/Relocating
Re: STX need "caretaker" - 10 years ago
Thanks - So far I trust the realtor as far as the sale goes. But wasn't thrilled with the mortgage broker he steered me to. Wanted to pursue via other avenues. The condo office is a good idea. It's a small association. But it can't hurt to try. Arriving tomorrow. Settle Thursday. Watch the STX economy boom on Friday as I shop for household goods. Re: STX need "caretaker" - 11 years ago
Thanks everyone for the advice and offers. A little busy right now getting the paperwork done and packing. But will pursue after the ink is dry and I have the keys to the castle. Appreciate the responses.by watruw8ing4 - General/Relocating
Re: trade - 11 years ago
I doubt this is common in the VI. But this is a reasonable request coming from someone in Phoenix. House trades are fairly common in and between larger cities where RE is/was booming. Mostly for speculation. (There's a tax break in there somewhere. But I never really cared to get into the mechanics of it. ) So I believe the request is on the up and up. Just don't know why anyone would want to leby watruw8ing4 - General/Relocating
STX need "caretaker" - 11 years ago
We are settling on our condo next week.(!!!!!) But I need to keep my day job for a little while longer in PA. So won't be there often. We will not be renting. We are wondering if there are any businesses on the island, short of a full-blown property management company, that cater to people like us: need someone to check on the place occasionally and do light cleaning before we come and after wby watruw8ing4 - General/Relocating
