Hi. My understanding is that there is no longer ferry service from St. Croix to anywhere, and the only way off the island is sea plane? Is this true? I don't have much pull in where we end up, but the Big Guys with the money are thinking it will be St. Croix, and though it is lovely I am trying not to hyperventilate at the feeling of claustrophobia that I am worried I will feel with no way off...

No, it is not true. There are several airlines that service STX.

This is something I am interested in as well. My research tells me that there used to be a ferry between STT and STX but that it now only operates during special events. Is there a ferry that operates in order to go between these two islands for special events?

St. Croix is a pretty big island, so no worries about being claustrophobic. People sometimes get what we call "rock fever"...just want to GO somewhere. Jet Blue can get you to San Juan for $57, one way. From there you can get anywhere. Also direct flights to Ft. Lauderdale or AA to Miami. During season, Delta to Atlanta...Lots of options.

STT is much less claustrophobic even though smaller - you can ferry 20 min to STJ and the BVIs. I feel a little island feverish here on STX and never did in STT. Actually I dreaded leaving STT for stateside.
They are reinstating the ferry (who knows when) but its also nick named the vomit comet and the last one hit the island..... No thanks on that ride. Tickets to PR - not a fan of PR either are cheapish like Juanita said and STT can be done for $80 each way in advance.

It's unfair to compare a boat being custom built for inter-island service and compare it to one that was not built for inter-island service. I took the old one a few times and never had a problem. Some people are just not cut out to travel by boat, I guess.

I never was able to go on that boat... you know since it ran INTO the island. LOL. I work on boats and never get sick - unless its deep sea fishing. Gotta take pills when I go for that. I was going on what I was told - several people I talked to about the old ferry called it the vomit commit. Pretty irrelevant anyways since everyones different.
Isn't it going to be $120 RT? For $60 more you can fly and only take 20 min. I took the ferry once to the BVI. What a pain in the ass. Just a waste of half a day. Worth it to charter or get people together and split it. With as many times as these "captains" run into stuff - I'll stick to the air.
My advice OP - just fly to STT and beyond.

i went on the old ferry and loved it. it was comfortable, air conditioned, tv, snacks
