Funny but true!
I find myself doing lots of these, except for 14 - it's too damned hot to
hang out, outside. I do miss open windows, fresh air and cooling breezes!

Alana those were too funny! And that's how I imagine it will be like. BTW what is a cistern?? Hope that I didn't ask a stupid question!

A cistern is a tank that holds water for household usage. Most are built under the house slab and are part of the foundation. Think of it as an "underground pool".

Rainwater from the roof is directed to the cistern and stockpiled. the water is then pumped into the house to feed all your plumbing fixtures.

That's a funny - and true - list

#6 and #8 - YES! Too many people in the malls and shopping centers, but great prices!

#10 Double yes! I am the "Door Nazi" gotta go in and out super fast to keep the mosquitoes out, and one always gets in anyway

#7 - NO - I take long hot showers whenever I am in the states, because I can!

I just returned yesterday from 2 weeks in the NE USA.
Tempering my island habits was consistently obvious to me - my internal reactions to what I considered wasteful energy use was interesting, the sheer volume of people, cars and traffic, product availability and cost, restaurant choices and overall community attire all felt somewhat overwhelming at times.
I really felt the simplicity of island life had formed me into pretty much a Luddite in the way I view the world. The constant use of phones and apps to solve every question actually distressed me and I found myself holding my tongue quite often. I wondered if people had lost the ability to think for themselves.
My Good Morning/How are you today greetings were commonly interpreted with quizzical looks. My long time, very good friends must have felt I was starved for human contact since I seemed to want to interact with anyone anywhere with a personal greeting.
I really was serious when I asked if we could stop at any supermarket just to look around at the food. [the choices and variety were truly amazing to me]
A 'small' gathering at a Greenwich CT Cars and Coffee 8-10a.m. Sunday morning had hundreds of exotic expensive bizarre impractical cars that I had never expected to see outside of a Hollywood movie and people drove these million dollar cars on the road!
It was like being on another planet that morning in all truth.
Overall I had a great 2 weeks - was constantly amused - and am happy and comfortable back in my own island home even with windy gray wet weather outside today - and feel so glad I discovered Island Life decades ago and avoided what I felt was a frenetic commodity fueled lifestyle, maybe next time I visit I will choose a more bucolic venue?

Loved your post, ExitZero

I feel the same way when I go back to visit my sister in White Plains. There are not many places in the US with a much more "commodity fueled lifestyle" than Greenwich, CT! Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous LOL!

That was wonderful, thanks for posting.

I'm from the South and my biggest amazement is when I'm shopping in the states, I find myself staring at all the clown makeup women wear. Women in the states seem to wear so much more than island girls!
