Access to Jack Bay from Grapetree

What's the story with accessing Jack Bay and the Nature Preserve from Grapetree?

Option 1: There's a trailhead just north of where South Grapetree Rd meets Point Rd. The trail is well maintained and connects with the main trail  that runs all the way to Pt. Udall. Yet, there's a "No Trespassing" sign posted at the trailhead and the first part of the trail appears to be traversing at least 4 different private properties (based on USVI.mapgeo.io).

Option 2: Point Road which leads directly to the Nature Preserve's border is blocked by a private gate which presumably is illegal (from what I can tell based on USVI.mapgeo.io). Looks like the last house #26 just put a gate on a public road and took over the cul-de-sac for their own parking and in the process blocks people from accessing a public space.  There's a poorly maintained trail that circles around the gate, but from what I can tell also run on private property (same owner as #26).

I understand that the residents want to discourage people from parking and using grapetree as an access point, but I live adjacent to Grapetree and often run or bike though there.

Seems odd you answered your own question.

@singlefin

I did not. I asked if someone knew the background how we got to these two seemingly “odd” options to enter the park; and ultimately is the trail for public use or am I trespassing.

Why not just go into a local police station and ask for the status, or even better if you believe you've done your research, knock on the door of the last house and politely ask what the gate is intended to do?

You never know, it might just work out.

@RevFD

I believe The Nature Conservancy put up the sign to prevent people from using the trail from the Grapetree side. I believe they wanted to keep runoff to a minimum, that occurs from a frequently used trailhead. Also, I do think the S. Grapetree neighborhood association (they have one) wanted to keep people out as well. Furthermore I will add that Darkmuse was not being helpful in the least!!! lol

The Nature Conservancy has an office on STX.  No doubt they’re the ones to contact.

Volunteering to maintain the property/trails would give you unrestricted access to every inch of it.
