I'd appreciate anyone's input on current air ambulance operator's - MASA and SKYMED.

Their plans and pricing are very similar which is why I hope to hear from someone who has had hands on experience which might tip the balance .

Dan

We had MASA, never had to use them, now our United Healthcare is offering AeroMD. My wife's insurance offered MASA. We stuck with MASA because I get a whopping 3% off at Plaza

We have the MASA package but I've not had the need to use it, thankfully. People say Skymed is comparable.

I have MASA. Never had to use it but you do get discounts on groceries at Plaza. Makes the monthly payment a little less.

Hello Dan,

How about recognizing those that tried to help. I am sure your response worded this way would go over better and encourage further discussion on the topic.

"Thank you for sharing who you are using as your Air Ambulance provider. Great that you haven't had cause to use it. Anyone have any experience using their service that can share the experience and provide a review?"

PS: I have a friend that had to use Skymed last year for a family emergency. I will ask them for their experience and get back to you. Any particulars you want to know about, when I ask them for their comments?

I don't need a lecture. I didn't come here to chit chat. Every non-response generates an email reminder that gets me back here for no reason. Posting to add nothing substantial must be some sort of fallout from the use of Facebook and other "social" media. Sorry I just don't get it.

Wow. This board gets better(worse) all the time. I have never signed up or used either of those services. They are probably wonderful services to have in case of a catastrophic emergency. If you can afford it, I would suggest buying your own jet or helicopter and employing a pilot to have on standby 24x7. Good luck with everything! 🙂

You must be a real treat to be around. Yes you asked and some offered no specifics to your question, but if you reallly thought about it, there are 100,000 people in the USVI, maybe 1% have that insurance and then maybe 1% of those are on the this forum, and maybe 1% of those that have it on this forum have needed to use the service. So that probably means 1 person on here used it, if you are so worried about it, ask the company for references.

And like some of the others have said, have a nice day, or more importantly what sparty said.

Hello Dan,

In my previous message I noted that a friend needed Air Ambulance service last year; and I was willing to ask them your questions and then pass along their response. You didn't comment on the offer but I asked them anyway, here is their response:

"We switched our insurance from MASA to Skymed a year or two ago. I would like to switch to AeroMd, but when I first looked into it you would be taken to the nearest place with the service, which was often PR. I think they might have changed it. I will be checking on it again and will likely make the switch. I recommend that everyone here has air ambulance insurance, the price is reasonable, around $350/year. It cost us $27,000 last year when we had the emergency and had to transport our relative off island. We used AeroMD for that trip and they were very professional. We used them on the recommendation of the hospital and doctor. In my experience and from what I have heard from other friends and acquaintances I would rank them AeroMD, Skymed then MASA. Our relative was visiting, did not have an air ambulance insurance policy. Wish we had known before, that a travel plan is available at $70 for 13 weeks. That would be smart thing to have for travelers with health issues."

They added to double check whether the providers have a plane on island or not, or whether its in PR and has to be brought over.
