We are moving to the the USVI in the spring/summer after the House is finished. Done with the weather here, rather deal with the storms there.
We own & operate a sawmill, Kiln, furniture shop, we have filled our house with custom built one of a kind beds, tables, bartops kitchen decor.
We’re not going to buy right away, as I’m a contractor, likely look for a good deal on a storm damaged home, so we will be renting for the unforeseeable future.
Will our furniture sell there if we ship it down. How fast would it sell? As storage would be a problem as well renting. Hate to leave it behind, and would love to see it in lovely homes there. Rustic live edge, rare species of hardwood, very unique creations. Also read that wood furniture doesn’t do well with the insects and humidity, it can be much worse than east Texas. Your thoughts are welcome, you can see our work on FB @ American Woodworks in Colmesneil, Tx if anyone is interested in the pieces. All input welcome. We’ve found we can ship out of Houston, an hour away, 30 day float to the island.

Best bet is probably to leave it in storage where you are until you are ready for it, meaning you have long term residence and are sure you are staying in VI Pieces apropriate for island climate should not have a problem selling on island.

Mahogany, Cypress, Cedar, Teak, are some of the more preferable woods to use here. Insect infestation in other wood or anything not pressure treated is prevalent.

In many (maybe all now) states, pressure treated lumber is not allowable for any kind of framing or interior woodwork (due to chemicals that are emitted if it catches fire).
Pressure treated is all people use for nearly everything here.

I agree with Scubadoo. Leave everything big in storage until you are sure you really do want to deal with life here. Spend at least a year, then decide...

This sounds like nice stuff. Would love to see some samples. We have a place and will be moving in mid-2019.

@USVIYankees - I saw your furniture ad and website on Craigslist here in the VI. The quality looks great but IMHO the design looks a bit ponderous for the tropics and the island home ambiance. The feedback you receive from the Craigslist ad though should give you some idea if the reception, interest and shipping idea is workable.

Well, I guess we didn't give you the information you wanted, because you never responded here and I see your post on WGOST. I'm glad you made contact with Malcolm. I still stand by the basic recommendation of coming down here with as little extra stuff as possible and see if this really is the place for you. This is not East Texas, Boston, nor Puerto Rico. It will be an entire new culture for you to experience. Some people thrive and others, not so much. Good luck to you!

The WGOST post is from your personal Facebook account that doesn't necessarily feature your woodworking if someone clicks through.

Nonetheless, your bar tops shown on your business' Facebook site are beautiful and very island-ish. Do you have any in American walnut?

Serious need for contractors on STX who can run residential job sites. You would likely need to get a contractor's license - or work for someone else who already has a license - but you could make some serious money right now.

STX custom cabinet shops are really busy, too. Don't know about STT.

Oh, lord! I am pretty sure that WGOST has become your go-to for info and that chances are you don't check here any more, but...for others who are looking to move here...

It is not a good idea to get into a pissing match with people here. You have NO idea who you are challenging, etc. IF you move here, it is best if you keep your eyes open and your mouth shut. Telling people how it is done where you are from is not helpful. You might want to spend some time reading the archives of the on-line papers for information on how life is in the VI. I don't know how many newbies have run into the same problem you are having,Robert.
