Ok, well. we don't go out that often these days. we thought we would go have an anniversary breakfast at angry nates as they have the best smoked salmon/bagel breakfast around. the last time we went there was new years day. new years day we paid 11.95, today we paid 16.95. was this because it was a sunday or did they raise their prices 5 over the past month?

ok, no problem, will just remember never go on a sunday again. food arrived and i asked for another plate, he brings me a coffee saucer instead of a plate. really? bring a plate next time. never once checked on us and that is my biggest pet peeve from servers. you were not that busy you couldnt ask if everything was all right and ask if we needed refills. you walked by our table every minute.

and yes, i still left a tip, not as much as i normally do because he did not deserve it.

thanks for letting me vent

Just spent a week in the states. EVERY SINGLE SERVER, HOST/HOSTESS, CASHIER, GAS STATION ATTENDANT, AIRPORT EMPLOYEE, HOTEL WORKER, CAR RENTAL AGENT AND TAXI DRIVER WERE NICER AND MORE RESPECTFUL THAN ANYTHING BEING DELIVERED ON ANY OF OUR 3 ISLANDS.

no doubt. one time in az i went to kmart and every time i turned around someone was sincerely asking if i needed help.
one time in the states i was driving behind my brother and he had car trouble so we both pulled over, he in his car me in the one i was driving. a cop going the opposite direction turned around and pulled up behind us to make sure i was all right and that my brother meant no harm. see if that happens here. i am still in awe of that

I ate at Nates yesterday and had great service. Sundays they get pretty busy. Maybe you were just in a bad mood and being overly critical because you were hungry. I work in service industry, so I notice things more than most and I almost always get pretty good service and nice people everywhere I go. I also make it a point to go back to the places who treat me better.

no not true, i worked in the service industry for over 15 years and give more leeway than those who have never worked in the industry. i usually give 20% or more. it really is not to much to ask for "service" and an extra plate. never overly critical and extremely patient

Sorry you had an off experience anywhere.

Wasn't trying to blame you either, just know how a lot of people get when they are hungry.

Sorry about your plate.

hahahahahahahaha, they probably saw you coming. Did you pay with a credit card? If so they probably already factored in a 20% tip to the bill so your short changed tip really didn't have much of an impact. You do realize that you live on an island and most things MUST be shipped in. So prices will fluctuate.

At a place here in Scottsdale, we went to dinner with another couple after a movie. Neither my wife or I was really too hungry so we ordered a single entree and asked for another plate. They said that they charged $5 or $7 dollars to split it.:-o
If it would have been up to me, I would have left. Will never go back.

terry, they have never charged for an extra plate. we actually go there every couple of months. they are usually really good about service. this time NOT. mtdoramike, i have lived here for 8 years i have no problem with people running out of things. i understand that kind of thing. but a saucer is not a plate. i do check my debit card and if there is any problem i will notify my bank. no problem there. hahahahaha and they did not factor in a tip.

i wonder if they just have higher prices on sunday??

I think they may have higher prices on Sunday because brunch includes all you can drink champagne... I make sure to take full advantage of that one and get my money's worth. I usually have great service when I am there, bumme you didn't because being a serve myself that's part of the whole experience and can make or break any meal no matter how good it is!

It's takes A LOT to piss me off but I will tell you, I had lunch in TuTu area earlier this week, won't names names but asked for ranch with my lunch. She says their out, no biggie. As I sat there enjoying my lunch and beer , another couple sits down and orders food. They ask for ranch and whala she has ranch! I was pissed. I could care less about the damn ranch but what was the point of lying right to my face? I left her a note on my check telling her I didn't appreciate the whole situation.

I've been in customer service for over 10 years and a head waitress at a VERY busy place for 2 when in college
So I always give the benifit of the doubt but she got me fuming lol.

Other than that I've had great service, and Love the bartender in hull bay at the smaller bar towards the beach. Actually just kinda love hull bay in general lol.

Sorry wasnt about Nates but had to vent 😉

I've been to Angry Nates twice in two weeks; once for Sun brunch and again for their Wed night prime rib dinner. I find the food and service there to be a consistently good value. I'd have to agree with another poster...prices on Sun are probAbly a little higher due to the unlimited champagne. I wouldn't judge anyplace by one bad experience. I'd call and explain that you weren't happy; I'm sure they'll try to make it right. Ask to speak with Brian or Adam.

I have always gotten great service at Angry Nates! Eat there at least twice per week! Love their food!,

The sorry food on the boardwalk and charging more per drink than any other place, IMO, is John Eddie's Lowlife Bar. Hot beer, that is when they don't run out of Miller Light at 6pm!!! They shouldn't advertise that they serve "southern" food! Never tasted southern food prepared that bad! Guess if the cooks would turn down their music in kitchen spewing the "F" bomb, maybe they could season something that might resemble Southern cooking. Tennessee by the Sea....who cares?

I hate to say never, but, I don't ever plan going back there as I've eaten there 5 times now with trying different things, but always the same crappy food served!!! Don't know how they are staying in business. They even ruined a good bar downstairs!!!

The wife , friends and I did our second year Valentine dinner at the Bombay Club---as usually great service and food. In fact, Bombay Club went out of their way for us----separate bills, and storing and serving a 10 year anniversary cake I had made for the wife and I to share with friends.

And those of you who enjoy breakfast----we go almost weekly on Sunday's to the Palm. Service, price, and food always good to great.

Simply put, you can find places on St Croix equal to the states(maybe not on prices), other include Pirates Tavern, El Sol, Spicey Grill, Blue Water Terrance-----and some will have issues here and there, but you will find ownership in time takes care of the issues-----------------or they go out of business.

Yeah, $3 for a pint of rum is a rip off. lol.

It's amusing the people who use to come there when it was stixx, reminisce about how cheap and dirty the bar was and wonder why they went out of business.

Also, good job complaining about cursing while cursing in the same post. Brilliant rant.

I have eaten at John Eddies a few times and am not a big fan of their food either. But I like the atmosphere and have enjoyed watching a number of bands there. I think it is definitely an enhancement to the boardwalk area and am glad they are there. As far as ruining a good bar downstairs, I assume you are talking about Stixx. I never understood how that place got the almost legendary reputation it seems to have with some. It always seemed to me like a dumpy little prison cell that would sometimes leave the cell doors open. Obviously it had its regulars but I never found them or the bartenders to be particulary welcoming to anyone who was not already part of the gang.

This John Eddies place need to get their act together. We were served cold fries and hot beer a few days ago. What a combination. Of all the food joints we've been to, I must say this was a first. Their front of the house and their back of the house needs serious retooling. I don't know what southern comfort foods they're promoting, but after trying to digest some of this garbage, we exited $75 lighter in the wallet and still with a ferociously untended appetite. What an utterly disgusting experience. Food places like this that spends exorbitant money on advertising touting to talk the talk must be able to produce and walk the walk. Otherwise, just go away, go away. No one needs this kind of acrimony.

Jamison, please re-read my post as I did not curse in it. I did discretely post a "letter" in quotes, mine you, and in my heart I know I did not and have never cursed in a post! Sorry, but, I did post my experience after 5 times eating there. Sorry, but, the sterile bar downstairs is a joke!

And, yes, before Chuck died and before Kate left, it was a well run bar with great atmosphere. That was way before the boardwalk ever went any further down than to the end of Brew Pub and where it it meets the corner of the Comanche.
