good morning all! i know the storms and extreme heavy rains have brought a lot of "creepy crawlers" out of hiding,but we have an infestation,mostly on the outside of the screens,of tiny bugs i have never seen before.there are thousands of them and because they are so so tiny some are getting into the house. they only way to describe them is they are about 1/16th of an inch, if even,if they weren't so many of them you probably wouldn't see them. they are black,winged, and don't seem to bite.they almost look look like gnats or sand fleas but are much smaller and darker in color.they are definately attracted to light. on the positive side raid flying inscect spray seems to work and we have put a call into terminex. i know it could be much worst living in the tropics,but i am very curious because there are so so many and i have never seen them before......any ideas about what they might be??? we live in the cotton valley area of stx. thanks for any responses.

We've had them, too, the past few night.
My wife sits in a recliner at night and reads while I watch TV. Next to her is an end table with a lamp. She keeps he drink on the end table, too. A few nights ago she went to drink from her glass and there were dozens of those little buggers swimming in her drink. As I walked over to get the glass from her I noticed what seemed liked hundreds of 'em on the wall next to the lamp. I quickly grabbed our "Jolt", pushed the button, and layed it against the wall. ZAP, ZAP, ZAP, ZAP!!!!! for about five minutes. It was like th 4th of July. I've never seen anything like it on this island. I had to grab the Jolt a few more times that night before I realized they were getting in through the holes in the screen.
The next night I kept that window closed but they found their way in through another. Last night I kept all three windows in that corner of the house closed yet still some got in. I could see them walking between the screen and the glass. So they're small enough to get past the weatherstripping. Dang! Funny thing is the next morning they're all gone. Most dead on the floor.
I'm hoping it's the result of the recent rain and they eventually all die off.

we have those bugs all the time. especially after a rain. They like light it seems and are always by the lamp. Always a big dead pile of them near the lamp in the morning. Strange. At least they are not centipedes 🙂

I believe you are describing what are called "flying ants". They are attracted by the lights. I have spoken to two different pest control people and they both told me the only thing you can do is turn off the lights. I spray them with Raid, outside the house. After a couple of hours they are gone. We get them quite frequently.

They are a nuisance. May have to close up tonight and run the AC to cut down on the little black bugs coming through the screens.

Had them last night too. Turned off all the inside lights, lit a few candles and all the burning candles had the little corpses floating in the melted wax. "Go Into The Light". What a way to die! Plenty of them dead on the floor this morning below where the night lights are. They're crawling on my computer screen as I type this. Ugh. Just another day in paradise!

Last night I tried something I'd long forgot about.
I sprayed OFF bug repellent (pump bottle) on the screens where those buggers have been coming in. It didn't work 100%. But we had far less in the house compared to previous nights.

When you start to see them, turn ON outdoor lights and turn OFF most indoor lights.
They come after the rains but usually only for a night or two.
I give it about 3 more days to the skeeter explosion. Get your jolt ready!
