ATT - pulling my hair out... options?

When we moved from STX to STT I got the ATT wifi box. Its basically another line that supports data and it worked well for about two weeks. Now its not working... well it is but here and there and most days .14mbps. which is useless for my and uploading images and websites.

After MANY hours on the phone over the last month I just am fed up with ATT. Lots of reasons but apparently they have zero interest in helping customers in the VI. How they can charge for services we aren't getting?? I've been with then for 13 years but have eno problem cutting the cord.

So options? Went to Viya - they have two 40GB cell plans + Unlimited WIFI Hotspot for $200 a month give or take. I pay $240 with ATT for unlimited all BUT after 22GB it does slow down on all three devices. while 65GB might be more than enough for an average user.... well I use about 200GB in a month... and thats a normal month - not a busy month. No not MB - GB lol. My files are very large.

Unfortunately via cable isn't in my area yet and wont be for another month. When it gets here I would cancel the Viya hot spot and get their cable internet which is $10 more but fast and works great for me in the past... well on STX it was great. I am really leaning towards Viya but I am worried they'll scream em over with some contract or huge fee to cancel if it sucks.

I am also hearing that springs is awesome on the Northside which surprised me. Haven't looked at their plans yet but always thought sprint kinda sucked here.

> Anyone here have via cell? Does it work?
> Does anyone have sprint on STT? Northside does it work well?
> Does anyone use the Viya hotspot and is it OK or also too slow for streaming movies etc?
> Do all these go off of the same towers anyway? So I wonder if so would switching be useless since the towers are still not fixed? How TF WAPA can get it together and multi billion dollar company like ATT can't, is beyond me.

** I wont pay for BBVI and wont use Surge although I have heard good reviews but I called when we moved back to STT, got a voicemail and they never called me back so I'm gonna say no on that too. I need troubleshooting support to be there when I need it.

Interesting statistic, about 30% of BBVI customers use more than 200Gig a month.
About 1% use more than a TerraByte a month. Usage patterns have really changed with Netflix and streaming.

BBVI just got its Inner Brass site online and have completed upgrades at Crown Mountain and Peterborg this week.

I have the Viya wifi/hotspot thing and it has a data limit but I'm not sure what the limit is (my husband did the pick up of it and didn't focus on the details). I was able to log in to the thing and it said my limit had been reached. I only checked because things were going super slow and was trying to figure out why. They did tell the husband that it was NOT meant for streaming, just browsing, emails, ect. I have VIYA at work, which is wired (office in the Marketplace) and the speeds are pre storm speeds and it's only gone down once in the past couple of months.

The Viya wifi/hotspots are a band-aide(r) to keep customers with basic service while they replace all the fiber/cable on the poles. My Viya "cable" TV started working about a month ago in the condo, the condo office still doesn't have Viya phone working yet.

What about via cell phone coverage? I wonder - they use ATT towers anyway? Honestly I can deal with bad cell service as I barely every use it but I NEED good and reliable internet.

If you can see Peterborg tower, try BBVI.

When I called VIYA 3 weeks ago, they weren't servicing any new customers for the mifi hotspots.

Sprint has never been great.
My neighbor has more issues with Sprint than I do with ATT and their services have been up and down, non existent as soon as 6 PM hits, comes and goes and very slow for cell internet.

BBVI had Inner Brass tower up.
Went back down...they can't fix until seas calm down.

All I can say is "Good Luck!"
Let us know how it goes!

I had BBVI about 4 years ago and wasn't happy. The service was slow and the tower was down alot.
I gave them another shot because I couldn't wait on Viya.
So far I've been very happy with BBVI. At the very busy times it may slow down to 16mps but most of the time its 25mps. The tower has only been down a few minutes a couple times that I have noticed.
Also the folks in the office are nice and pleasant to deal with. If this keeps up they have my business for good. Viya was slower for the same money and down quite a bit before the storm. I let them know and as far as I could tell they never addressed the problem. Thank You and
Keep up the good work BBVI!

A lot of people on STJ are hooking up to Hughesnet. How about on STT? It's pricey, but the people I know who have it are happy with the service. ATT has been pretty bad on a lot of STJ for the last few days. I hear a tower in Susanaberg is under repair.

Hughesnet has its issues:
- data caps
- latency
- $2000 installation fee

My friend just hooked up with BBVI an the says it barely works at all. In fact several friends aren't happy or left BBVI. Sorry dude - just not worth it. And $100 is overpriced IMO. I get the exact same thing (yes unlimited) with Viya for $69.99 and before the storms I only had ONE outage in 2 years. I refuse to pay $200 non refundable install. Sorry I just think its absurd and I see a lot of threads here where BBVI has issues and it seems to take a while to get resolved. I just need Viya to get to Lerkenlund stat!

$2K is insane. STJ has way too much money lol.

Some people I know have hughesnet.

Very pricy and there have been issues (at least here in STT that I've heard) in finding someone to install the equipment and do so, correctly.

I haven't tried Hughes, and used VIYA (Innovative) years ago but once we switched to BBVI we haven't needed to look anywhere else.

Over the last eleven years we have lived in seven different locations in the VI- six houses on STX spread out ranging from east, west, rainforest, mid-island, north and south shores, plus a two year stint in Coral Bay STJ in the middle. I'm always surprised by the complaints about BBVI on this board. We have used them exclusively and had great service and consistently high speed internet for the entire time no matter where we lived. We stream movies and music constantly, and my wife transfers large data files all the time for work. I'm not knocking anyone else's experience but after reading some of the posts I felt it worth noting that BBVI has worked great for us over the years.

We have Hughesnet. Very happy with it. We paid the up front cost happily otherwise we would still be waiting for BBVI.

I have a Viya phone and the internet on it is not as good as their mobile hotspot.

With your data needs, you're going to have to pay more than you paid pre storms to get the results you need. When Viya gets their fiber network back 100%, hopefully they'll go back to offering affordable unlimited plans.

Viya is coax to the residence / business, on phone poles, not fiber. They have some fiber in their backhaul, as does BBVI. Calling their network fiber is not true.

I can't understand you having to pay so much for the ATT wifi box. I, too, have unlimited with the ATT wifi box, but, lower could happen at 22GB. I pay $150/mo.
I bought my box while in Arkansas staying at my daughter's house out in the boonies of the county and just brought it here when I returned in January and it appears to be working well when I get a signal. Getting good signals gets better everyday for me.

Viya kept saying after Irma that the reason we lost connectivity is because someone cut their fiber wire. It is my understanding that that is what they are trying to rebuild.

I won't even pretend like I have any idea about how any of this works, so I will just ask a question..... Viya and Broadband VI are on the same 'network', NextGen?

Viya = their own network. Feeds from Level3 and I believe AT&T on STT.
Broadband VI = their own network and viNGN. Both feed from Level3

What is Level 3 and how does it matter? FCC just "gave" VI and PR millions to upgrade telecom. Where is that money going other than to "consultants"?

So they all feed from level 3. I just looked it up so does level 3 = global crossing?

Level3 = one of the largest undersea fiber cable stations in the world. It has 4 main fiber lines that go to:
- New York, which connects to London
- Miami, at NAP of the Americas, a giant interconnect point
- Brazil, which loops around South America)
- Panama, which connects to the Brazil cable (after it goes through Argentina and Chile) and a cable to Los Angeles

It also has fibers going to Puerto Rico, Barbados, and other down island locations
It was originally developed by Tyco in the 90's, which sold it to Global Crossing, who were bought by Level3 who have merged with Century Link. So my current invoices are from Century Link, but I still mistakenly call it Global Crossing.

It is located on the NW corner of STX,
