i thought it was a great show. but of course Sheldon from the vibe thought it was derogatory to St Croix.. But he thinks everything is derogatory.

EXACTLY!! Sheldon from da Vybe is someone I try to avoid listening to at all costs. His voice is so annoying and he doesn't have anything of substance to say.

I also thought that the show was great. I had no problem with it. It wasn't "touristy" or anything like that. It showed the REAL St. Croix. The foods that an average Crucian would eat and the place where they would go.

I was really pleased to see the episode. I'm still trying to figure out between STT vs STX and it appears that STX is pretty far from being considered touristy. Which is good. The crime issues....not so good. 🙁

Crime rates are the same on STT and STX. No difference.

I guess I read more about STX.

that's because for some reason the crime on STX gets sensationalized, while it's hush hush for the same crime on STT.

Pay attention to the trend, it happens right here on this message board.

It's everywhere. Had stuff stolen on both islands personally. I blame the morons for taking it but also blame this moron (myself) for leaving stuff in the car. I wouldn't walk around in CA nor C-sted/F-sted at night. Same IMO.

I do hear about it much more from STX than STT but usually from this forum. Probably just cause its a STX heavy forum. Rarely hear from friends and locals.

I will say that I find it HILARIOUS (not the crime itself obviously) but Tominians get all wide eyed, shake their finger and say HOW DANGEROUS STX is and when I go to STX Crucians get wide eyed, shake their finger and say HOW DANGEROUS STT is. Pretty funny - just goes to show were all da same.

Reminds me of the TV show Taxi, where Latka and Simska were always arguing about who was dumbest - the hill people or the valley people.

AandA, you are correct. I remember years before I even moved here people who lived on STT were saying how bad STX was. When I moved here people on STX were saying how bad STT was.

I thought the show was good publicity for STX. But good God, I almost threw up several times during the program.

Forgot to record the show, but I can't wait to watch. Why would you throw up? I love going to Mexico because some of the food they serve is probably illegal here in San Diego and mostly just unappealing to Americanos. I think it is great! Testicals, brain tacos, eyeballs, all yum if you just taste and don't dwell on trivial stuff.

To each his own. I personally find all that stuff disgusting, but if you want to eat a bull's balls, more power to you.

I missed the first 15-20 mins of the show, but from what I saw, the only thing that I haven't or wouldn't eat are the land crabs.

I still think you are crazy. Why not eat edible food? I have served beef tongue in tacos and people thought it was the best shredded beef ever. Roasted sheep head is a delicacy and the eye balls are the cherries on top! Brains, balls, and organs are different, but still worth a try at least.

I guess it helps not to know what it is before you try it.
I would never have tried tongue had I known what is was. As it turned out, it was quite good and found myself going back for more.
Love most island food but was never one for the fish eyeballs so would always find someone to pass them on to.
Now, the cheeks are sooooooo sweet and tender.
As for brains and balls (not sure they go together here!),;) well......just don't tell me what it is and I might try it. After all, I quite enjoy bullfoot soup, goat water, kallaloo and love stewed oxtails plus a whole bunch more!

Really made me miss the island. I used to eat at Joe Can Cook. I moved
there to try all the local foods and try to make as many local friends as I
could. I succeded in both. I would fly back just to have Roti and Sous.
I would also hunt down a guy named Hennis that sold King fish and
bread out of his pick up. Cool show that really brought back alot
of memories

I hate to call people names, but I'm sorry to say the man is an idiot. I'm forced to listen to him because of the daily sport show and the horse racing broadcasts. I prefer listening to Radio One, but they're online stream is always either down or acting up.

I toured all the restaurants Zimmern did in Baja a couple years ago. All of them were fantastic. I am a foodie, and had no problem ordering "huevos" in Ensenada. My Spanish is OK but the waiter said it was too late for breakfast. I reiterated "Testiculos" and he nodded then brought me the Mexican menu (a few different offerings). He suggested I get a sample first and my girlfriend laughed at the confusion and then got freaked when he brought three thin slices of bull testicle on a small dish. I ate all three with salsa on tortillas being made by a woman about 10 feet away. I am an adventurous eater, but not a fan of testicles. I expected mild, brain flavored mushy stuff and it was not. Very, very organ flavor (not a fan of those flavors) and full of a mineral, copper taste. Ordered some thin sliced marinated grilled steak (carne asada) instead.

A different place called Manzanita ( http://rmanzanilla.com/) is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The menu rotates depending on what is available at the local market. Each menu was hand written as you had your cocktail and each dish explained on where it came from and how it is prepared. We literally had one waitress that only served us. She sat out of conversation range but jumped to serve us if we raised an eyebrow. They made these bread/biscuit things about the size of a puffy cookie with a bowl of local olive oil that I wanted to drink. I am so serious, this olive oil was the freaking best ever.

My date had a pork chop served sizzling on a platter with asparagus and was killer. I had the best Huachinango a la Vera Cruz ever (Red snapper with capers, onions, green olives, tomatoes and chili sauce). The wine came from the Guadalupe Valley, a few miles away and an area we toured the next day, and was dry, almost salty, and tasted like the earth it came from.
I want to get those local flavors on STX. I want street food and upscale local food. I want to cook with local ingredients and get what the earth is about.

We thought the show was great, showed alot of nice views of the scenery. The segment on Villa Morales was very good and it is a good place to eat. When they showed the cattle herders what did they mean that the land would soon be gone? Didn't get that part.
