Just when you think it is safe to go out...Bam....someone pees on your shoes
Thanksgiving day, after one of the best dives I have ever had at Cane Bay, some one broke in to my car and stole cash and my blackberry
We did not discover anything was missing until we had left Cane Bay
The scum that do these things should be hanged.....They sure can ruin a great place like STX
I should know better than to leave anything in the car and just leave it unload.
Also, were the f.... are the cops. I thought they where going to put a sub station in Cane Bay years ago
The good news is that no one was hurt
STX is going to turn into Bonair where they will break a car window to get to a dog turd...
The break ins there are out of control and it is effecting tourism
I guess we live, learn and move one

This sucks, but perhaps you can go back a couple weeks later w/ a purse/bag in the car w/ a rat trap set in it or something!

I heard that they decided not to put in the police sub station because they could only have one car and were afraid they could not protect the station from thieves when the car was gone.

I thought I should share this info. This also happened on Thanksgiving.
This was posted on STX CrimeWatch.

First, I want to thank everyone for all the well wishes, I feel like
I've been blessed with a band of angels. By now, I know many of you
have heard about what happened on thanksgiving and hopefully what
follows will clarify things if you still have any concerns; I saw the
car come up our hill with a single male in it with his arm hanging out
the window and he pulled into Bill(our neighbor's) driveway. Phil (my
husband) said it was probably a friend of Bill's, therefore our
concern was not great. We had already locked our dogs in the house
and we were almost an hr. late for the dinner we were going to attend
at Rainbow Beach. We knew this was also where alot of our neighbors
would be. So, while Phil was putting our food in my car, I told him I
would walk over to Bill's to check it out and he could pick me up from
there. When I got there, the silver toyota tercel was running and
facing up the hill-in the direction to exit our one-way homeowner's
association. I called out for Bill, and as I approached the door, a
male was at the door. I asked him his name. "John Smith". I asked him
who he was visiting. He gave me a 4 letter name which I don't recall,
but it was not a name of any of our neighbors. At this point we both
realized that he was not supposed to be there. I started screaming for
help as I was running up towards my home. He picked up a standing
bicycle pump, which I thought was a carjack came after me with
it,smashed the back of my head and knocked me down into the center of
the driveway. He kept swinging at me as if he were going to kill me. I
still was screaming for help. He must've heard the sound of Phil
coming in my convertible,so he jumped into his running car and ran me
over trying to escape. The front driver's side tire ran over my
buttocks, the rear tire ran over the back of my upper thighs. At the
top of Bill's driveway he collided into my convertible. Realizing that
he could not get out that way he put his car in reverse. He ran over
me again as I was pinned next to a rockwall. MY husband then witnessed
me under the tires of his car as he ran forward over me and again
backward over me trying to maneuver his car backwards down the
driveway. Phil was now on foot chasing him down the hill. The car spun
around and when he was driving forward into the bush Phil knew he had
time to come back and get me. I had finally been able to drag myself
into the bush next to Bill's front porch. We quickly drove down to the
bottom of Jolly Hill and summoned help from Dave Clark. He pulled his
pickup over the road to block anyone from coming or going. We, with
his assistance finally got through to 911 and the ambulance. We got an
enormous amount of assistance from the neighbors across from Dave who
were I believe having a church meeting. I believe that being packed in
ice immediately made a huge difference to the injuries I sustained.
The police took our report while we were waiting for the ambulance.
They took my report again in the ambulance. They took report in the
ER. I, amazingly, have no broken bones, I had a few sutures to the
back of my head-so other than having alot of pain and being very slow
moving, AM ALIVE!!!! I identified my attacker on friday from a police
spread sheet, I actually could hear him in my mind as I identified
him...Phil was told by that detective that I had ID'd who they
suspected and that due to the evidence they found in the car, it led
the police to arresting another two people they'd been searching for.
On Sunday, my attacker's father, came to our house to retrieve his
car. He said that his son's friend had told him where it was.
Apparently, he had posted bail the day before thanksgiving, stole his
father's car and went on this crime spree. Phil immediately let
Detective Hector and Linda from forensics know this man was here. Phil
of course, did not let his father know the cars location. Phil went to
the police station and picked up the wanted posters and distributed
them to various sights on the west end. Today, monday, Detective
Gomez, who has been assigned to my case took my statement and wanted
to get it typed up to have a judge sign it so the arrest warrant could
be issued. I know Phil has had several conversations with the police
to see if he had been arrested over this weekend, because frankly, we
have been unable to sleep, thinking he may try to come back and kill
me..I have also heard that Mandy, who lives on Mahogany Rd. next to
our association was also robbed on thanksgiving.(she wasn't home at
the time). She knows other people that were robbed the following day.
I know our other neighbor D. .Deterville was robbed within the last
month, as was Eddie and Kathy on the beach, the people above T.
Sedgewick, other homes in LaGrange, etc. So, I know there are plenty of
thieves on the island, and we all know material stuff usually can be
replaced, but with my incident it really puts to the forefront that
life means absolutely nothing to these criminals. So, I apologize for
the length of this. I only hope good can come out of it. Again,
Thank-you for all your concerns! Pieta Kopp

A Holiday Reminder to all based on our burglary experience right after Xmas last year:

Take your gift boxes to the dump. Don't let them sit out where they can be seen or picked up by trash haulers.

Put your gift purchases in a hidden location, out of sight, especially if you have anyone coming through or around the house, such as a landscaper or pest control worker.

Check all your windows before you leave, and install security hardware on sliding doors.

Don't leave second story windows or doors open. Thieves bring ladders and are adept at climbing.

Back up your computer now, and make photocopies of the backs of all your creditcards, license and other important docs.

Don't leave your cellphone behind.

If you're going to the beach, designate someone to watch your stuff.

Good news that you are OK...thank God
We were at Rythms on Friday telling about our sad tale when we heard about your incounter.
These guys are getting bolder and bolder
When are the cops going to take control of this type of crime ?
With STX being a island it would seem that it would be easy to hunt these guys down and lock them up.
If they do not get a handle on this, all us honest people will be running around with a 45 in our pocket and will start shooting first and asking questions later......Maybe that will deter the bad guys.
Some of the people I spoke with at Rythums were on their way to get gun permits this week.
Take care and I hope you are a speedy recovery

I just received this in an email this morning and thought it was good to pass along.

Crucial

Because of recent abductions
In daylight hours, refresh yourself
Of these things to do
In an emergency situation...
This is for you,
And for you to share
With your wife,
Your children,
Everyone you know.
After reading these 9 crucial tips,
Forward them to someone you care about.
It never hurts to be careful
In this crazy world we live in.
1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do :
The elbow is the strongest point
On your body..
If you are close enough to use it, do!
2.. Learned this from a tourist guide.
If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse,
DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM.
Toss it away from you....
Chances are that he is more interested
In your wallet and/or purse than you,
And he will go for the wallet/purse.
RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car,
Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole
And start waving like crazy..
The driver won't see you, but everybody else will.
This has saved lives.
4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars
After shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit
(doing their chequebook, or making a list, etc.
DON'T DO THIS!)
The predator will be watching you, and this
Is the perfect opportunity for him to get in
On the passenger side, put a gun to your head,
And tell you where to go.
AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR ,
LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE..

If someone
Is in the car
With a gun
To your head
DO NOT DRIVE OFF,
Repeat:
DO NOT DRIVE OFF!
Instead gun the engine
And speed into anything, wrecking the car.
Your Air Bag will save you.
If the person is in the back seat
They will get the worst of it .
As soon as the car crashes
Bail out and run.
It is better than having them find your body
In a remote location.
5. A few notes about getting
Into your car in a parking lot,
Or parking garage:
A.) Be aware:
Look around you,
Look into your car,
At the passenger side floor ,
And in the back seat
B.) If you are parked next to a big van,
Enter your car from the passenger door.
Most serial killers attack their victims
By pulling them into their vans while the women
Are attempting to get into their cars.
C.) Look at the car
Parked on the driver's side of your vehicle,
And the passenger side... If a male is sitting alone
In the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back
Into the mall, or work, and get a
Guard/policeman to walk you back out.
IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)
6. ALWAYS take the elevator
Instead of the stairs..
Stairwells are horrible places to be alone
And the perfect crime spot.
This is especially true at NIGHT!)
7. If the predator has a gun
And you are not under his control,
ALWAYS RUN!
The predator will only hit you (a running target)
4 in 100 times; and even then,
It most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ.
RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern!
8. As women, we are always trying
To be sympathetic:
STOP
It may get you raped, or killed.
Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good -looking,
Well educated man, who ALWAYS played
On the sympathies of unsuspecting women.
He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often
Asked 'for help' into his vehicle or with his vehicle,
Which is when he abducted
His next victim.
9. Another Safety Point:
Someone just told me that her friend heard
A crying baby on her porch the night before last,
And she called the police because it was late
And she thought it was weird.. The police told her
'Whatever you do, DO NOT
Open the door..'
The lady then said that it sounded like the baby
Had crawled near a window, and she was worried
That it would crawl to the street and get run over.
The policeman said, 'We already have a unit on the way,
Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.'
He told her that they think a serial killer
Has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax
Women out of their homes thinking that someone
Dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it,
but have had several calls by women saying that
they hear baby's cries outside their doors
when they're home alone at night.
10. Water scam!
If you wake up in the middle
of the night to hear all your taps outside running or what you think is a
burst pipe, DO NOT GO OUT TO INVESTIGATE! These people turn on all your
outside taps full ball so that you will go out to investigate and
then attack.

Stay alert, keep safe, and look out for your neighbours!
Please pass this on
This e-mail should probably be taken seriously because
the Crying Baby Theory was mentioned on
America 's Most Wanted when they profiled
the serial killer in Louisiana

I'd like you to forward this to all the women you know.
It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle..
I was going to send this to the ladies only,
but guys, if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc.,
you may want to pass it onto them, as well.

Send this to any woman you know that may need
to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it
and it's better to be safe than sorry..
Everyone should take 5 minutes to read this. It may save your life or love one's life

I am sorry this happened. It still doe's not dampen my thoughts on relocating. I, being a Federal Agent for the past 20 years makes me good proponent of the .45. I will start a small business " Bar " , so I figure I will be handling a lot of cash. Never take anything for granted always be aware of your surrondings, hope he goes to jail for a very, very long time . No one deserves this and his lack of morals should be checked by 230 grain hollow point.

Best wishes on a speedy recovery.

I think a 20 year Fed agent has enough experience and training to know when to shoot. Their fingers are not that itchy more like accurate. I Think all Retired Law enforcement personnel should be able to carry a weapon and maintain there rights to protect and serve the community they live in.

I prefer to sail as well and don't even want to poke some one in the eye. I don't think I could stand by and watch a person harm another person, nor will I ever be the victim while I have the skills, knowledge and mind set to survive. I have been around firearms my entire life. Does this make me an expert ? I have been a Fed For the last 20 years, the past 5 have been spent as a Training specialist , I am well versed in self defense. I tend to rely on my 4 large aggressive dogs around the house but you know they are kind of like Cops, they can't be everywhere, all of the time.

This anti gun train of thought really bugs me. I follow this board on a daily basis and really wonder about some of the priorities exhibited here on this board. For starters, lets understand that I dearly love my Dogs and they are well taken care of. I notice all of the animal shelter work that is done here and the funds that are raised by donations, this is all good and just work and I for one am glad that you kind people do it. But I wonder at the same time, why do I see 10 times the postings, for helping animals and rarely see anything posted about thousands of dollars being raised for mankind ?

Maybe, just maybe our priorities are a little backwards. Times do change and I find myself saying things I told my Father I would never say. My dogs are family and I can even except Cats but has society changed so much that we care more for Animals than we do for Humans ? Maybe I will start something new upon my arrival.

Hey, I am all for kicking the crap out of the guy for dragging the puppy across pavement. But we would end up in jail. What I am saying is that a lot of money is generated for helpless pets and, that I actually like to see this.

There is however many people out there who just need a little help up on their feet and that the generosity to help them, seems a little lacking. This would of course be myself included, not every person deserves my help, they just keep on taking and taking and never seem to return anything productive or help themselves improve their situation.

I can recall hundreds of thousands of dollars raised for animal welfare that I have read about here on this board. But I don't recall very much being done to help the people or to educate them. Lets never forget we are all animals. I have over $ 10,000.00 invested in one dog, after she had one great litter she was fixed,if she blows out the other ACL we will fix it as well, simply because I can.

Where do we draw an acceptable line ? I understand what you are saying and agree with you to a point. My version of PETA is "People who enjoy tasty animals". Although I prefer to hunt the grocery stores and not the Deer or Elk anymore, I have just gotten to lazy. When I arrive Trade I will support animal welfare but I may try something a little different as well, and I am bringing multiple firearms that will be secured in my very large safe bolted to the floor. They have to make it through the dogs first which is a fear of mine, don't you dare harm my dogs to gain access to my home, very deep trenches on the North shore I hear ? Remember they are my Family. Maybe I am just on a rant and blowing steam but this whole thing started with Margarita girl, being severely abused and nearly killed, I believe I would have choose to save her over my beloved pets,we are different kinds of animals afterall.

I hope that is not true!
Otherwise, the families & children here are being very mistreated!

As Trade said, at least people do have a voice, and hopefully can tell the right people & get out of these dysfunctional relationships.
But the poor animals, have no voice!

Chockman, this is something I noticed as well when I moved here. I give generously to the fundraisers to help the animals and try to at least give if not attend events to raise funds for them but I don't see much in the way of helping people here. Most noticeable is that I don't hear about any fund raisers for the orphanage here. I donate to them as well but I would like to see more fund raising activities for the children who also don't have a voice.

Dougtamii, I thinks we may have to meet in the near future. I used to give to Children's Hospital and I seem to be a Gov idiot these days. I think it is time to stop taking everything for granted, time to reinvent myself old self. I will never be a bleeding heart liberal but I do know who I am and what I am capable of. Hell yes I would support the children with you. The two legged variety that is,all of ours have four legs.

They would never raise a wing in my honor,I don't think I will ever be that wealthy to be able to donate that much. But sometimes, small things can make a difference to some one.

I met a Woman the other day and realized just how damn lucky I am. She had, had leukemia and as a side affect of the treatment she went through, she had lost blood flow to her bones which resulted in her jaw bone as well as forearm, ankles, knees and various other parts of her body having to be replaced and she could still smile and laugh with me. I think I will give up the ghost on Island,I hate moving. It would be very nice to leave memory of they helped the children. I may be off track here with this post, but it's got to start somewhere. Vacation in Feb,move back here sell it all and relocate. It is not our first time on Island,so I will again try to do some business in Feb.
