Bulk Propane Delivery

Is there anyone on St. Croix other than St. Croix Gas or Antilles Gas that does bulk (not bottles) propane deliveries? Both companies apparently only have one truck that delivers to different parts of the island each day of the week. Unfortunately, neither company can/will give you an approximate time they will be there and 3 out of the last 4 deliveries I have attempted to coordinate, they ended up not coming or calling on the scheduled day because "something came up" or they had too many deliveries that day. Yesterday morning I called to see if Antilles Gas could give me an expected time for a delivery in LaVallee I had scheduled two days earlier. They could not give me a time but said I was on the list and the driver would call ahead of time. Around 3:00 I called back to see if the driver had tried to call me and was told they ended up not making their LaVallee deliveries that day because the manager had the driver do something else - thanks for the heads up!. Anyway, I have not had problems with the bottle deliveries, only the bulk, so I am hoping there is someone on island who does deliveries but does not work for the gas companies.

I'm guessing you're pretty much stuck. Do you have to be there for the delivery? My tanks for my restaurant were behind a locked gate but when I knew a gas delivery was coming I'd just unlock the gate (but leave it closed) and tape an envelope containing the cheque to the tank. The guys would close the gate behind them when they left and it negated the necessity of my actually being there waiting. Maybe no help at all but the only solution I can think of! 😀

OT is right. I usually am not home when they replace the individual propane tanks so I'll leave the check in a plastic baggy (in case of rain) taped to the tank. They deliver and leave the receipt back in the baggy. Maybe that will work for you unless there is a convoluted process involved with your delivery. Usually have the same delivery guy as well so he knows the property.

I finally got this delivery done so I guess I will stop venting on this topic for a while. Most of the homes with installed tanks that I deal with are vacation rentals and have motorized gate operators, so I pretty much need to be there for deliveries, particularly when there are vacationers present. The bottle deliveries seem easier to coordinate for some reason. But thanks for the input!

These are the only two propane companies on island. I believe they are owned by the same person. I could be wrong about that.

There are only two gas companies on STX but I was hoping there was an independent delivery man who owned his own truck and just purchased gas from the big companies. Even if he charged more I would gladly pay a premium for dependable service, but it does not look like that is an option. The driver from Antilles Gas told me yesterday that the company does own 2 trucks but they only have 1 driver.

A good business opportunity...why not buy a truck yourself and go for it.

Personally, I've never met the propane delivery guy even once in almost 10 years.

I leave a check...he delivers propane.

Simple.

I had a 6:30AM wake-up call from my propane delivery guy this morning to make sure he knew the house. Ordered yesterday from.
Antilles Gas. Forgot they call so early!

So you leave a check made out to Antilles and the amount is blank?

No, when I call to order I ask how much to make sure I have correct amount, make the check out for that amount on the check to Antilles, taped to tank in sandwich bag.
They will deliver even if I am not home, take check and leave a reciept in the baggie. I use the baggie in case of rain so the writing on reciepts and checks are legible and not a soggy mess.

IslandStar's question afforded me a good chuckle.
