Hello all! I have gone to the website that is supposed to tell you everything that you need to do in order to transfer a cosmetology license to the USVI, however it isn't very clear. I have also e-mailed the appropriate people (about 3 weeks ago) my questions but I haven't heard from them. Not too surprising. 😉 Wondered if anyone here could help me with the list of stuff I will need to do/ have to get this done properly. I know I need a health card (also for waiting tables) but not too sure about the rest- other than my stateside license. Thanks so much for any help!!
Also- any info on snafus or experiences doing this would be helpful!!

I would be very surprised if you could transfer a license. Usually they want you to jump through big hoops to apply for one. I would suspect this is something you will need to do in person.

I"m pretty sure you are going to have to apply for a new license and sit for an exam. You can go here to learn more about the cosmetology license. http://dlca.vi.gov/boardcertifications/steps/barbers/ Start now! Sometimes this can be a very long process. Good luck!

Calling works a lot better than e-mail for getting questions answered down here. We're catching up to the late 20th century these days, but in government especially, things are pretty old-school. Let us know what you learn!

Call them @ Dept. Of Licensing and Consumer Affairs/DLCA.
Ask to speak to Mrs. Jeffers or Tiffany Grovsner.

Almost everything to do with the government in the Virgin Islands operates as if it were 20 years ago. You can't expect 2017 levels of service and technology in an environment were technological changes are shunned by the workers.

A phone call (or a dozen) will work better than emails. It is my understanding that you have to take the exam here to get a license in the VI. My old stylist had to take everything again to get her license in the VI, nothing would transfer. And if I recall correctly, it wasn't a test that was offered very frequently.

Unless something has changed in the last 3 years (which is possible, but doubtful), you will have to do as stjohnjulie says and apply for a new license, sit for an exam, etc. There is no "transfer" of pretty much ANYTHING from the States to here! As Alana33 suggested, call DLCA and speak to one of the people she mentioned (I have found Mrs. Jeffers to be accomodating in my dealings with DLCA over the years). You can also hire someone to do things for you and get the ball rolling much faster - I have done both (doing everything myself and hiring it done.....hiring it done was MUCH more efficient!!). Tiffany at DLCA is also great and very helpful as is Mrs. Jeffers.
Best get the ball rolling as it can take awhile. Just getting a license renewed can take awhile. Having someone help you get it done and get thru red tape and running around as Pilatesgal suggests is a great plan.
