The governor has been told to pay back $490K? Are you sure this is right, that is a hell of a lot of money to get away with for just one scam.

Note Chucky was only dissenting vote. Ha!
Now if the spineless senatorial wonders would kick Hansen's butt of the legislature and make her pay back what she owes the VI taxpayers, life would be good.

2010

"It should be clear to all that I never had any intention to benefit from any monies spent on my security after my service as governor. And indeed as I have said before, and I repeat here today, I have committed to paying over to the government the value of what remains after my term," deJongh said.

Does it matter that he stole it in the first place? And yeah, you're all going to see that after he jets to Miami for retirement.

I'm not a Chucky supporter but we do not know if she stole money from the VI government. For all we know, she could have been owed a refund....

Chucky withheld $188,000.00 in income taxes over 19 years. That is stealing!

Chucky was charged for granting a 5$ million contract to her husbands conflict. During that investigation it was discovered that she had not made a tax payment on her W2 income for 19 (nineteen) years. She got the charge dropped because she and her husband were not a joint entity as evidenced by the fact that she had not filed jointly.

As to that, he had the "green light" approval> " The project was given the green light after Public Works sought and received an opinion from the V.I. Attorney General’s office, stating it was permissible to move ahead with the work once public interest was served and was the main reason for the expense."

"But in 2010, the U.S. Interior Department inspector general’s office concluded in a report that the renovations of de Jongh’s private home with public funds, “usurped the Legislature’s authority to determine how to spend public funds” and should be returned."

Thank God for our Inspector General! The last honest dept. in the VI!
Maybe....the only dept. and I am sure it's not easy for them since every single audit they do finds glaring faults.

I agree Alana. The IG is the last breath of honesty.
Too bad they don't have prosecutorial powers.
By the way, the Attorney General's approval (which is not a court order or a legislative act), was not revealed until after the IG's report. Therefore, we don't know if it was backdated.

That was from the U.S. Interior Department inspector general’s office, not our local Inspector General.

Good Grief!
Wonder indeed where she gets her money from?
Wonder who's paying for security/police for this type of event?
Also, Has she paid any of the money she owed in taxes back?
Looks like she just upped the fish fry game.
How can people keep electing this person?
STX must have some serious rockstones in their populations heads.

Of course Sanes and the rest of the senators just gave away to the American Legion
10 acres of public land and $300K of taxpayer money and let it use a government building in Peter's Rest rent-free indefinitely, Seems like quite the sweetheart deal to me. Then they cry broke and up their budget with funds that are non existent.

Welcome to my reality.

1. Chucky has a supporter, Lee Rohn, Esq. caught transporting drugs at the airport.
2. There are 3000 ballots missing from the BOE in the Stt district. In Stx, Rupert Ross broke the seals on all ballot boxes and left the ballots uncounted at the board overnight. The machines used in all elections prior to 2014, are not voter verifiable and were not certified or certifiable. So we in Stx do not if Chucky actually won.
3. Sanes's in-laws got a $1 land deal of farm land behind their Chicken Shack restaurant. How do keep electing Sanes in addition to Chucky?

You tell me. I used to admire the Crucians for cleaning house every election. Seems to have slowed down.

It's easy to see why Chucky gets reelected. She goes after the neglected voter and gives the impression that she has the interests of the every one of them at heart. Who else has a carefully crafted message that appeals to the masses?

Most other candidates are running on the same tired promises people have heard for years, and didn't deliver. Chucky usually promises only to fight, and that's an easier promise to keep.

Chucky knows targeted marketing like no other VI politician. Her video is masterful, and will definitely appeal to young voters which most candidates are ignoring.

"Sell the sizzle and not the steak" used to be a very popular marketing mantra. Chucky sells the sizzle. Most people will consider a steak "good" if it comes with a loud, attention getting sizzle. That's Chucky.

I think she rivals Bill Clinton for political acumen. Candidates should study and learn from them. You have to have a very well crafted message that breaks out. Very few candidates do.
