Good morning all! Say, question about local plant life...are there any actual cinnamon trees here on STT or STJ (like the kind found in Sri Lanka), or just the Bay Rum tree? I've tried to research it on the web and haven't come up with anything definitive, for instance both the local university, on their plant identification page, and historical info about Cinnamon Bay in STJ, seem to be referring to the Bay Rum Tree.

I like to research so I just did a quick search Trees of the Virgin Islands
I found this bookbook about trees of vi
There is a search feature to the bottom right of the image of the book, and I typed cinnamon - it will show that the book has info on wild cinnamon

I've seen cinnamon bark for sales at various places but don't know the tree. If you scroll down on below link there's a picture.

Thx for the resources you pointed me to Alana33, will definitely check them out and yes, Eleanor’s been most helpful in identifying plant life that I’ve photographed during my hikes posted on FaceBook. Is she a botanist? Seems to really know her stuff????.

Eleanor Gibney is a treasure -- a botanist, among many other credentials, who grew up on STJ and has documented every native plant on the island. She knows pretty much everything there is to know about local flora.
