Hi -- potential newbie here.

Who has recently had a 40 foot container shipped to St Croix from the US (Charleston, Jacksonville, Ft Lauderdale, Miami)?

What was the cost?

Thanks.

You can contact Crowley at this link and get a quote. http://www.crowley.com/What-We-Do/Shipping-and-Logistics/Liner-Logistics-Rate-Request

I would contact a few of the shippers for a quote. I would think that it should be about $6000-$8000 for a 40' from JAX.
We shipped a 40' from Detroit to the Grenadines in 2006 for $3000 using a Toronto based shipper but those days are over!

It's 4,000 to ship a 20 ft from stx to Wilmington nc

Approximate 2,000 of that is over land.

A 40 foot is huge. We are getting alot in the
20 ft.

Have used containers in the past to ship internationally -- two cars plus household goods fills one up fairly quickly. Not sure if a 40 footer will be necessary. Not sure if two cars are necessary. 🙂

Wouldn't it be cheaper to ship the cars separately to the VI?

I don't know; I'm just asking if someone else knows.

How do you plan putting 2 cars in anything less than a 40?

You want it packed tightly so things do not
Shift around

Thanks for all the info.

We still have to decide whether to bring one or two cars plus how much "stuff." At one point a few years ago we had two 40-footers full of stuff and have been downsizing the past couple of years as the kids are grown and out of the house. Still don't know when it's going to happen. The later it happens the less stuff we'll have. I hope to get it down to enough for a small house (2-3 BR).

You have to realize that in the islands less is more. You might have wanted a huge house in the states, but in the islands people live in smaller houses because they realize that other than sleeping, most of their time is spent outdoors.

Too true. We live on an island now (Hilton Head) and in a house half the size we used to live in four years ago. We're ready to live in a house half this size.

It isn't just about economics; it's about a simpler existence.

My wife and I both grew up in a tropical area -- me, in Ft Lauderdale in the 50's and 60's (before it was "developed") and my wife, in Jamaica in the 60's and 70's, so we understand the life very well and can't wait to get back.
