Cruzan Rum #9 Spice Rum vs Captain Morgan

Let the competition begin between Captain Morgan and Cruzan Rum----a win win for the US Virgin Islands.

Listening to the radio tonight , Boston Red Sox vs Seattle Mariners, I was knocked off my chair when a commercial for Cruzan 9 Spice Rum came on . The commercial was short and promoted Cruzan #9 Spice Rum and urging you to ditch the captain and coke for #9 and coke.

A huge fan for many years of Cruzan Clipper Spice Rum, too include my Mom sending me some in Listerine bottles while in Iraq in 1991 and 2003 and my birthday present every year 6 bottles of Cruzan Clipper Spice Rum hand delivered me to Rhode Island(ie it was not sold in the US I was told because of Captain Morgan's trademark--not sure if this was true, but couldn't find it anywhere to buy in the states), was saddened the clipper was discontinued by Cruzan Rum almost a year ago.

However, please to be enjoying Cruzan #9 Rum now, although not sold in many places on the island yet(Quality Deli sells it) and shocked to hear a commercial for Cruzan #9 rum while listening to a radio station from Boston , MA tonight.

Anyone know any store having Cruzan Clipper Spice Rum left?

Anyone else purchase Cruzan #9 anywhere on the island yet, other than Quality Deli?

We sell 9 at The Comanche Sugar Mill on the boardwalk - disclaimer, I bartend there. I feel that it has much more vanilla in it than Clipper and Captain Morgan but it's still a good spiced rum. Try going through Premier and see if they carry 9 or Clipper.

Identifying yourself as a pilot and stating the importance of rum is slightly unnerving to me. Only slightly 😀

Chefnoah, everything has its time - a time to work, and a time to drink.

Thank you all for all the locations to buy #9---maybe I need to open my eyes more.

PS Do you like orange creamsicles? Try the Cruzan Vanilla Rum with Orange soda. Looking for a frozen version, mix vanilla ice cream with the Cruzan Vanilla rum, and orange soda.

Disclaimer
I do not work for Cruzan Rum----its just Cruzan rum is the world's best and Virgin Islanders should be proud of the tradition of Cruzan Rum and its great products.

NOTE: You go pilots----work hard-----play hard.

Being an old time VI flyer I was always under the impression that here the rule was not 24 hours before flying but not within 24 feet of the airplane - they just keep changing the rules I guess.

The official rule (In Part 91) is "10 hours bottle to throttle". 😀

Close but not quite true. The regulations state three things concerning alcohol.

No flying within 8 hours of flying.
No flying with a .04 or greater BAC.
No flying under the influence. (This includes hung over)

You are also not allowed to refuse any alcohol or drug test. Professional pilots are under a random drug and alcohol screening program as well. Under that program if a pilot were to blow a .02-.04 they are sent home for at least 8 hours, but because they have not broken any regulations they are not subject to enforcement actions.

Most airline have stricter policies than this though, such as 12 or even 24 hours bottle to throttle rules. The regulations are taken very seriously by professional pilots. I can't tell you how many times I have heard, "Sorry, I wish I could stay, but I have to fly a xxx time tomorrow, have fun though." Part of a pilots training is medical related, and in that you also learn how the body metabolizes alcohol, and at what rate. You would be amazed what kind of odd things a professional pilot has to learn.

Now back to the much less intellectual conversation here. You absolutely must visit www.cruzanrum.com and check out all the recipes. So many different "flavors" so little time.

I have lived in Saint Croix, San Juan, and am working on getting settled in on Saint Thomas, and I was shocked that Don Q is the rum of choice in most places in San Juan.

I will say there is nothing cooler than watching passengers freak out as they first step foot on the islands and are handed a sample of Cruzan Rum at the airport. I'd go as far as to say it is one of the major reasons people come to visit, and we all know how important their visits our to the economy here. Never mind the fact we are blessed with the best sailing, beaches, and never ending Summer, we also have the best Rum in the world. I mean really? What is not too love?

Not to change the subject but why can't Cruzan made a rum that tastes like Mt Gay. Yes I have tried the Black strap but it just doesn't measure up in a rum and tonic.
