I saw a deer on the side road just west of the large estate across the road from Coakley Bay.

These deer are eating all of our cucumbers & our lime tree. And the big iguanas won't leave our squash alone.

But I love the wildlife!

But the deer freak me out a little bit. I went from a place where I had 10-20 full grown elk in my yard everyday, to these teeny tiny little deer. I still do a double take when I see them!

Late yesterday afternoon looked out to the back yard and there were three young deer. Glad they found the brush more appealing than my garden!

Suggestion for your garden problems. As a farm owner in the states, we plant food plots for the deer. It sounds weird but if you go to the barber shop and collect the hair clippings scatter them around your garden. The deer will stay away because of the human scent.

Sandy - we tried the hair clippings. They didn't work & just blew around eventually.

We also tried hanging up fabric sheets, and that didn't dissuade them from our delicious lime trees.

Maybe the deer out here aren't scared of people.

when I lived in the Seattle area, we had tons of deer always in our yard eating my roses and other plants. What finally worked was shaving up bars of Irish Spring soap and putting bundles of shavings into old pantyhose to tie to the bushes within the foliage. Every time it rained or if I ran the sprinklers it let a little more of the soap out to keep the scent there and the deer wouldn't come near it. I soon had gorgeous rose gardens.

Maybe they aren't scared because they aren't hunted here. I would look online for answers. I know for our small plants in the states there was a netting you could place over them to protect them from deer. But seeing as the tropical plants here grow so large not sure what would work. I would look at a garden center website. good luck!
