OK, anyone know what happened to the DISH HD channels, specifically ABC and NBC? I know we used to get ABC on 020 but it is gone and now just a non-HD on 008.

My ABC was gone early yesterday, but, back by last night. I did not check the other channels.

Call Dish at 800-894-9131 and file a complaint.

I wish Turner and dishtv would settle their contractual differences and restore the news channels they removed.

Screwed again by Dish is what I say. The last time it was when they pulled the HD feed from WVGN. When PR got a new NBC channel, they gave PR customers the HD feed and left us with SD. WVGN swears they still uplink in HD. It was Dish’s choice to downgrade our signal to SD.

Now comes a new PR ABC station WORA and Dish took WPRU off air, gave the feed to WORA which is HD and did not give the VI access to that feed. Now we are stuck with local channel 8 which probably never will broadcast in HD. I think they are still using videotape equipment from the 1960’s and even if they did broadcast in HD, Dish would probably relegate them to SD like they did with WVGN. There may be some legal argument about not giving us the HD feed from PR, but certainly not technical ones. All they have to do is send a signal to map the transponders and they can give any channel they want.

I am getting a little sick of Dish’s attitude. Calling them probably is meaningless. I called them when the WVGN switch happened and got nobody to even admit they knew what was going on. If I lose any more HD channels I may have to look at STX Cable, much as I hate to.

I remember when there were no local/network stations on Dish.
Then they added them and didn't increase the monthly bill cost.

If you want channel 8,get an antenna. Or go to cable.

I don't know how long Dish has been in the USVI (15 years or so?) but I had it from the beginning, recommended it to scores of people and swore by it - until several months ago. To revisit the litany of complaints isn't my intent but the crux of it all is that their customer service fell into a rapid decline and, after countless attempts to try and resolve the issues I had with them, I finally had enough and canceled the service.

Innovative's new cable system is absolutely fine after it being so very "iffy" for so very long (which is why I never subscribed to it). With the package deal of landline, DSL (both of which I already had) and now TV, I'm saving over $60/month - and that's not including the current "special sign-up" deals I'll have for a few months. No problem at all with reception or service.

When I went to UPS to pick up the box to return the Dish receiver, the clerk said they've seen a huge and unprecedented rush of dissatisfied Dish customers coming through their doors in the last several months. I wasn't surprised.

Channel 8 has been on DISH for a while now but the quality of the signal and production values of the News suck so bad, I don't bother to watch much.

WVGN's NBC feed is pathetically bad and why we don't have an option is too bad. The feed quality is dreadful, the programming frequently goes haywire and the whole operation is incredibly poorly run.

My Dish HD ABC is gone now too! Just have the awful VI ABC feed in which the sound has hissing in the back ground. Their news is basically some guy reading the newspaper? WTF Dish?

I have had Dish now for two years and have never had a problem. Maybe I am the exception rather than the rule here, but, I, for one and IMO, love Dish. Sure beats the cable company I had back in the states, talk about crappy signals coming through the tube!

I hear too many stories about people losing cable in the middle of a game, and the horrors of standing in lines for customer service for me to consider switching from dish. Plus cable does not carry the channels that I want to watch.

All I can say is that that was then and this is now. Until the new EVO system was up and running, Innovative's STT customer service office was always filled to the brim with disgruntled cable TV users clutching malfunctioning receivers and waiting for replacements. I loved my Dish and just used to shake my head and consider myself so fortunate to have made the better choice.

Going there now is a completely different experience all around. Gone is the seething crowd, I've been able to get in and out with no long wait and the whole experience is vastly different.

Can't comment on the channel lineup as I get everything I watched before - and the DVD has way more capacity than the one I had from Dish which is nice as I record most of the programming to watch when I feel like it. Given my frustrating experiences with Dish customer service which led me to finally cancel my account, it's definitely a huge plus to have the customer service reps right to hand if and when needed.

Things change!

So people still have cable even when the power goes out?

I am chatting with Dish as we speak and they have no clue that ABC WPRU is out of business, they are making me do all the tech support crap as they say WPRU is still showing that we should be getting it! LOL!

No, same as Dish.

That is basically the same thing they told me when I called several months ago about the switch to SD on WVGN. You are right, no clue.

I'm off the grid. But if a cable repeater loses power, I'd expect that customers would also.

That's why I like dish. With the generator, if power goes out, I still have service. With cable, when power went out, it did too and many times, would still be out when my power was restored.

I've never had a generator so six of one and half dozen of the other! In the several months since I've switched to cable there have been many power outages and cable has come right back on as soon as power is restored. One other little plus - no "weather" outs!

We have cable, UPS, and generator. Sometimes, if Innovative doesn't have a blackout, the cable is fine.

Good. I had my Dish in three different locations on different parts of the island and, in all three, heavy rains would disrupt the signal. Location, location!

Had innovative phone and cable in stt and was so disgusted with the quality of their signal, poor customer service and low value for the price I switched to Dish. Now on stx I stayed with Dish and am very pleased. Would never go back. Local channel sd/hd changes are a a little annoying but I'm not paying any extra for them like I used to. sometimes but the value is great.

And again, you had it "before". Glad you're happy with Dish but my only point is that the Innovative system and service have done a complete turnaround.
