When one purchased duty free rum from Cruzan Rum Distillery and its packaged for you can you take that on the plane and your connecting flight back home? It "seems" to be the case based on some browsing on the net but wanted to know if anyone has had the experience.

AS A CARRY ON OR AS CHECKED? my understanding was that all alcohol had to be a checked baggage but no charge for checked baggage. i thought they stopped allowing it as carry on a few years ago

Speee1dy is correct. Your booze must be Ck'd as baggage but it is free.

Make sure you don't have 151 proof that can not fly. Booze is free to check but at least one bottle must be local, so Cruzan or Capt. Morgan you are good.

It's free to check regardless from VI. The amount you can bring back duty free depends on whether one is made locally or not. You can't bring more than 3oz of any liquids through security check. If you buy any liquidsalcohol in the terminal past security you can bring it in the cabin. Just make sure you don't have any connecting flights that force you back through security or it will be confiscated.
