back for that brief moment in time when we could shop at walmart for grocery items, everything was cheaper there.
lipton cold brew tea was about 1/2 price at walmart
peanut butter was a good 2 bucks cheaper
toilet paper and paper towels were much lower
mixed nuts were cheaper by 1=2 dollars.

cant remember any more items and dont remember exact prices

Got a great avocado again from Pueblo last week. Not a black speck in sight. Going to ask Cost U Less to change whomever their supplier is for avocados as every time I buy one there, it is not good and a waste of $$$. Pueblo' s haven't dissatisfied me, yet.

Alana33...........I agree with you about the acocados....Pueblo gets it right and for less money than Cost U Less with their black spots. (tu) Sadly they were out when I got there Saturday at 8 am. (td)

The avocados at PriceSmart are supposedly good, but I don't go there.

Good Afternoon people, Food store prices go up & down weekly. At every food store no matter where you live. I find that the recent Pueblo weekly add, some items are cheeper, the same or a tad higher but not by much than where I currently live in South Jersey. I'd love to see any other adds if any one can please post. Are there any bulk food stores on STX? like costco, BJ's Thank you All

I have posted other store websites in other food prices posts.

We have CostULess and PriceSmart as big box equivalents. They both have websites, but not sure if they offer weekly specials. PriceSmart is membership. CostULess no membership.

A woman was having a "mini-breakdown" in Cost-U-Less Stt, over the expensive prices here on island. She was talking out loud to herself saying something to the effect, "she has to keep reminding herself about the expensive food prices since she moved down here."

Cost-U-Less is something like a Costco, as far as a bulk food store with no membership fee. PriceSmart has a membership fee of $15.00 per year.

Cost-U-Less has a Facebook page and will post any specials and when they circulate a sales flyer. Sometimes they also have in-store coupons' circular for certain products.

Plus you can sign up for their rewards card. (CUL) After a certain amount spent, they mail you a coupon good for $30, $60, $90 depending on amount you spent in a 3-4 month period and it costs you nothing but you have to sign up and get the card to swipe when making your purchases.

Some prices are much better at PriceSmart, some better at Pueblo, etc., so it does pay to shop around. Gourmet Gallery and Food Center and the new grocery store in Red Hook, formerly Marina Market are pricier but they will have items you can't get at other stores.

I shop for specific items at different stores. I generally spread my grocery shopping around to different places over the course of the month. Maybe hit CUL and Pueblo once every 2 weeks, PriceSmart once a month, other stores, periodically, if in the area. I find Fruit Bowl pricey and now rarely shop there unless looking for a specific item. The Health Food store is pricey but they have items you can't find elsewhere. I absolutely refuse to spend an entire day, going to
all the different grocery stores so I break it up over the course of a month - 6 weeks. There's just so much shopping I wish to deal with
in the course of one day. 2 stores and I've had enough for the day.
There's always next week.

our sale prices can be comparable to regular prices in the states. it is things like organic milk that is almost 7 a 1/2 gallon , things of that nature that are more expensive.

I just don't get people complaining about higher prices. The Caribbean, for decades for the most part, has been known to be an expensive destination. Why are people surprised?

Prices have improved for many items in the U.S. Virgin Islands so it's less of a sticker shock now and quality is better.

If you want cheap, there are plenty of other destinations.

Prices here tho have gone up considerably, IMO, over the course of the last few years. While that's probably true for other locations, when you have limited options, it's much more noticeable and your dollars don't go as far so one adapts.

My husband generally does the shopping but last week I tagged along I probably will not be asked to go again. I spent the entire trip picking stuff up and putting it back down whenI saw the price. His philosophy is if you want it get it. Don't look at the price. I've been here for years by the way.

jane, i used to really look at prices and put stuff back because i looked at the prices. take cherries for instance. i had not bought cherries since i have lived here-over 10 years - but after seaside opened the cherries looked to darn good not to buy. they were awesome . so i now buy what i want in moderation

What ever happened to the Save On Food store and Burger King that was supposed to be built in front of Home Depot on STX? I was looking forward to both. Anyone know?

I buy Caribbean Cherry frozen concentrate "juice" at Plaza for $1.99. Learned to love it when visiting PR. Somewhat satisfies cherry craving.

They sometimes have good prices (for here) on cherries at CUL.
I buy them when they're $6 per lb. and they've been really good.
The price is generally higher.

It can be iffy but the last couple of times I did buy cherries, they were sweet and lasted well over the few days it took to consume them.
Won't buy when they're over $6 per pound or without a taste test.

I see we're branching out now so here's one from the UK where you can compare prices between chain supermarkets located there and then, if you like, compare them to stateside prices using the link posted above and then in turn to prices here.

LOL!

I was just recently at Plaza Xtra and I am used to not looking at the prices. I just grab stuff and run with it.... That was until the girl scanned everything and gave me the total: $102.42. I looked at the items in amazement, looked at the girl, and she said: "Yeah, I know". We just started laughing.

Now I just drink one and only one Blue Moon, huh, every full blue moon.
